3 Redeemer Lutheran Church th Avenue SE Rochester, MN SCRIPTURE READINGS L: The Old Testament Lesson for Eighteenth Sunday After Pentecost is from the one hundred and tenth chapter of Psalms. 1 The LORD says to my Lord: Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet. 2 The LORD will extend your mighty scepter from Zion; you will rule in the midst of your enemies. 3 Your troops will be willing on your day of battle. Arrayed in holy majesty, from the womb of the dawn you will receive the dew of your youth. 4 The LORD has sworn and will not change his mind: You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek. 5 The Lord is at your right hand; he will crush kings on the day of his wrath. 6 He will judge the nations, heaping up the dead and crushing the rulers of the whole earth. 7 He will drink from a brook beside the way; therefore he will lift up his head. Psalm 110 L: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. EPISTLE READING L: The New Testament Reading is from the second chapter of Acts. 29 Brothers, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day. 30 But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. 31 Seeing what was ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to the grave, nor did his body see decay. 32 God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact. 33 Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. 34 For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said, The Lord said to my Lord: Sit at my right hand 35 until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet. 36 Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ. 37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, Brothers, what shall we do? Acts 2:29-36 L: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. (Please stand to sing.) (*) RESPONSE (LSB 549, st. 7) Oh, that with yonder sacred throng we at His feet may fall! We ll join the everlasting song and crown Him Lord of all. We ll join the everlasting song and crown Him Lord of all. (*) GOSPEL READING -3-

4 Redeemer Lutheran Church th Avenue SE Rochester, MN P: The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the twentieth chapter. C: Glory to you, O Lord. 24 Now Thomas (called Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, We have seen the Lord! But he said to them, Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it. 26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, Peace be with you! 27 Then he said to Thomas, Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe. 28 Thomas said to him, My Lord and my God! 29 Then Jesus told him, Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. 30 Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. John 20:24-31 L: This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to you, O Christ. (Please be seated.) CHILDREN S MESSAGE (Parent s, please feel free to come forward with smaller children.)
