6 Psalms 46:10a says, Be still, and know I am God A man was tired and weak all the time, drained of energy. Finally, he went to see his doctor and said, I feel drained and exhausted. I m always tired. I don t seem to have any energy. I have a chronic headache. I feel worn out all the time. What s the best thing I can do? The doctor knew something about the man s fast-paced lifestyle and said, What s the best thing you can do? You can go home after work, eat a nutritious meal, get a good night s rest, and stop burning the candle at both ends that s the best thing you can do. The man pondered for a moment, then asked, What s the next best thing I can do? It seems as though our world is in a rush. We are driven by deadlines, shopping lists, family and social activities. People take vacations and come back just as tired and drained as before they left. Now, many things we do are actually good things, but we need to make time for real rest, contemplation, prayer, and most importantly God. Will we have energy and hope for tomorrow? Will we have the faith to live each day with confidence because we are experiencing the abiding presence of the Spirit of God in our lives? Instead of settling for the next best thing in our lives, let s choose the best let s experience God s advice and Be still and know I am God Keith THE TRUSTEES will be meeting on Monday, August 29. 7 WELCOME, NEW MEMBERS! On Sunday, August 14, at the 11:00 service, we welcomed Scott and Gail Gordon into our church fellowship. They have two children, Alexa, age 2, and Eric, age 6 months. The Gordons come to us by transfer from Clemmons UM Church and live at 8119 Riverway Road in Lewisville. Scott and Gail are both Optometrists. Alexa will be added to the Preparatory Roll of our church and Eric will receive the Sacrament of Baptism on August 28 th. Their Fellowship Friends are Zac and Julie Ziegler. AUGUST IS CAMP MEETING MONTH AT 11:00 SERVICE The Camp Meeting is one of Methodism s most cherished and enthusiastic traditions. The old camp meeting was a time to enjoy one s faith, to invite friends and family members to share in worship, fellowship and the renewal of faith. Here at Lewisville each Sunday in August at the 11:00 a.m. service, we will be honoring this old tradition. At the 11:00 am service, our Camp Meeting won t have nearly as much preaching as they used to have (the sermon often lasted for hours, as one preached and another preacher slept and awoke to carry on), but we will have a more informal service where we will sing some of the old hymns. Invite family and friends to join us for Camp Meeting Month this August. REMEMBER IT IS ALSO A CASUAL MONTH, meaning that you are invited to come dressed more casually, as you are comfortable doing so. The choir and pastor will not be wearing robes. Join us for another Family Movie Night on Friday, August 26, at 7 pm in the youth room. The movie, Ramona and Beezus, will be free, so come and enjoy the fellowship together. Popcorn, drinks, and snacks available for a donation. SIGN UP FOR THE WALK TO END ALZHEIMER S! I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. In Matthew 36, I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me. How awesome it is to belong to such a loving, caring, missions-minded Church, and how rewarding to know that our Church has taught Caleb, Joshua and myself that our church is one big loving family, and by the grace of God s love we can depend on our church for all of our needs and comforting. I love to tell the story of Jesus Christ and how I once was blind and now I see. Yes, I see all of His love and blessings surrounding each of us. But you know there is one other story that I enjoy telling as well and this story is about my Church Family and Lewisville UMC. And by re-dedicating my life to Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior I have also re-dedicated my Services/Time/Talents to Jesus Christ. This is how God will have me return my love to each and everyone of my Church Family Members! God Bless You All! KNIGHT FOR CHRIST BRAD MCBRIDE
