This will be held during worship services and Wednesdays at 4:30pm or 6:30pm in the Cokesbury Room. Radical Hospitality. Passionate Worship. Intentional faith development. Risk-taking mission and service. Extravagant generosity. These are phrases that have been used in and around the church for several years now. They are what makes up the Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations. Pastor Jeff will be preaching a series on these practices. In conjunction with that the Wednesday evening study, led by Pastor Gary, will focus on these practices as well. We want to encourage you to be present, to faithfully participate in the ministry of the church and explore further what it means for us at Maple Springs to fully engage in these five practices. What does it mean to be radically hospitable? Are we passionate about worship? Are we intentional about our faith development, participating in Bible studies, being a part of a Sunday school class? Are we risk takers in our mission and service to the community and beyond? What does it mean to be extravagantly generous? We hope to see you in the coming weeks as we delve into these Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations. RADICAL HOSPITALITY Volunteers needed We are currently in need of receptionists in the morning from 8:30am to 1:00pm and in the afternoon from 1:00pm to 4:30pm. Tasks include cheerfully greeting guests upon their arrival, answering phones and usually there are odds and ends (such as mailings. stuffing bulletins, etc.) to be done. We are also looking for substitutes. We are also looking for someone to send out acknowledgement cards for honorariums and memorials. This could be done from home. We supply the cards and stamps. We are always looking for substitutes and backup people in these ministries. If you would like to part of this radical hospitality ministry, please contact Betsy Bechtel (336) ext. 402 or her at betsy@maplesprings.org. Page 2

6 Maple Springs Life Our Church Family MEMORIALS Given in memory of Sue Retner McKee: by the Bailey and Howard family. Given in memory of Thomas & Coleen Day by Virginia Herron. Given in memory of Jackie Lee Gordon by: Henry and Carol Jackson Lisa Harmon Larry Hicks William Stover Jeff & Deidra Woodward Merjorie VanMeter Harriet L. Gordon Jeff and Sharon Nalley Janice Bowen DEATHS: 1/3/17 Jackie Lee Gordon (Jack) 1/8/17 Betty Lee Van Glabeke One of the ways we can be responsible stewards of our resources is to be mindful of energy consumption. We also strive to present our buildings as something that we care for, that we maintain, and that is a welcoming presence. Perhaps you have noticed a difference in the lighting in some areas of our facility. We have recently upgraded lighting in the oldest buildings and parts of Craven Hall as well to energy efficient LED, which provides better lighting with less energy consumption. Some light fixtures are brand new, and others have been retrofitted with LED technology. The upgrade required significant financial investment, but we will realize payback over the next several years through energy savings. Please help us continue to be good stewards by turning off lights at the end of each usage. If you are in doubt, please go ahead and turn off the lights! This will help us speed the payback of our investment. Page 6
