LEWISVILLE IS A STEPHEN MINISTRY CHURCH Stephen Ministers are trained lay care-givers who provide emotional and spiritual care to persons who are experiencing difficulties in their lives hospitalization, loss of a loved one, loss of job, or any other crisis situation. This is care in addition to the care the pastor gives. If you are interested in having a Stephen Minister, fill out one of the slips in the pew rack and put it in the offering plate or hand it to the minister or one of the Stephen Leaders, Becky Bingham or Tom Lee.

6 In his letter to Timothy, Paul did not say, "I know in whom I have believed," although this also was true. He did not say, "I know what I have believed," although this also was true. But Paul did say, "I know whom I have believed" (2 Tim. 1:12). Paul not only knew something about Christ, but he also knew Him personally. Salvation is not merely a matter of knowing something but believing Someone. Do you know Him? Then do you enjoy reading what He says? If you know the author of the Book, you will love His Book. A young woman laid aside a certain book she was reading because she thought it was dull. Some time later she became engaged to be married. One evening she said to her fiance, I have a book written by a man with the same name as yours. Isn't that a coincidence!" The man replied, That's not a coincidence. I wrote that book! That night she sat up until 3 o'clock in the morning reading the book she once found dull. It was now the most thrilling book she had ever read. She had fallen in love with the author. Is the Bible a dull book to you? Then maybe you should meet the Author. Keith HELP WITH CHURCH SECURITY At times, doors to the church have been found unlocked during the week. If you open a door, be sure it is locked when you leave. This is a regular problem here at Lewisville UMC as our church facilities are used about every day. We must all work together to insure a safe church. PATHWAYS STUDY GROUP The Pathways Study Group will start up again on Tuesday, September 21, and continue each Tuesday morning from 10:00-11:00 a.m. in the Yokefellow Classroom. The group is open to all available at that time. The group will be studying the Book of Acts and is taught by Pastor Keith. SERVANT DAY: OCTOBER 23 Our third annual church-wide Servant Day is set for Saturday, October 23, from 8:30 noon. Lunch (soup and sandwiches) will follow in Asbury Hall. Please put the date on your calendar and plan for you and your family to participate. Also, please save Campbell s soup labels and Box Tops for Education labels to be cut out and sent to Bethlehem Center. More details will follow. Teacher Recognition Sunday September 26 September 26 is Teacher Recognition Sunday at both the 8:30 am and 11 am Worship Services. Looking forward to seeing you! JUST A REMINDER: The latest Council on Ministries and Administrative Board minutes are available on the table across from the church office. This is a good way to keep up with what s going on in your church.

8 FORTY DAYS OF PRAYER Join us starting Sunday, September 19, for 40 DAYS OF PRAYER FOR OUR NATION. During this time before the national elections on November 2, pray for personal preparation, repentance, obedience, steadfastness, and faith. It is important for us to prepare our hearts, going before the Father and making sure we have no unfinished business with Him. Revival and spiritual awakening in our land begins with us, the church. Ask the Lord to help you repent of your sins, obey Him steadfastly, and be strong in your faith, so you can be His powerful representative to and prayer warrior for this country. The principle of sowing and reaping applies not only to individuals but also to nations. A country that ignores or rejects God and His Word will suffer the consequences of that choice. Though Israel had once honored the Lord, it went astray during the days of the prophet Isaiah and suffered the dire results of turning from the heavenly Father. The church must still awaken to its responsibility to be salt and light in a depraved world. Each generation is called to be alert and active during its appointed time on this earth. Won't you please commit to Pray for 40 Days. 2 Chronicles 7:13-14 says, If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Other related Scriptures: Psalm 51; Psalm 77:7-15; Matthew 5:13-16; Psalm 73; Psalm 85:6-13; 2 Chronicles 7:12-15; Psalm 33:12; Psalm 117. Prayer example: Be gracious to me, O God, by examining my heart and revealing my sins. According to Your loving-kindness and the greatness of Your compassion, show me where I have strayed from Your will so I may confess my transgressions to You and know the freedom of Your forgiveness. Make me clean before You so I can intercede with an open and contrite heart for my nation. The people of America need You, Lord. We need You to open our eyes and hearts to Your truth. Thank you for beginning to change the country by transforming my own heart. Thank you for hearing my prayer. In Jesus' name, Amen. WEDNESDAY NIGHT SUPPER: OCTOBER 6 Open Arms Children s Choir to Sing The Missions Committee will prepare the meal for the Wednesday Night Supper on October 6 at 6:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall. All are invited to come and share the meal. As a added treat, a choir of children from the Open Arms Community will share the meal and entertain us with song. An offering for Open Arms will be received. The menu will consist of salsa chicken, green beans, salad, homemade rolls, and homemade desserts. Please help the Missions Committee know how many to cook for by filling in the form below or calling the church office by noon on Monday, October I/We plan to attend the Wednesday Night Supper on October 6.
