The participants will be serving terminally ill children & their families that are in town for Disney World. Please be in prayer as they share Christ's love and hospitality with these families. Baby Lucas will be here before we know it and I m sure he doesn t want to be swaddled and dressed in pink and glitter! Let s get her ready for a little BOY! Sara is registered at Babies-r-Us, Target and Amazon. Nursery color is blue with accents of The Avengers! Everyone is welcome to stop by! UMW YADKIN VALLEY DISTRICT ANNUAL MEETING will be held at Pine Grove UMC on August 13th at 2 pm. The theme is Growing In Blessedness. The UMW will be collecting underwear and sanitary products for the homeless. Please bring to the Aug. 4th meeting or place in UMW bag outside the office by August 12th so that they can be taken to the District meeting. This is a follow-up to our first project of handbags filled with personal items for the homeless.

4 THE UMW MORNING CIRCLE will not meet in August. UMW CIRCLE 1 will meet on Monday, August 8, at 1 pm in the parlor. WE COULD REALLY USE YOUR HELP IN THE NURSERY! If you love to spend time with little ones and have an extra hour to spare throughout the year, please go to this link : at Volunteer Spot to sign up for dates for both the 8:30 and 11 am worship services. You can also sign up for the nursery by calling June Hayes ( ) if you prefer. METHODIST MEN S BREAKFAST MEETING: The Methodist Men will have their monthly breakfast meeting August 14, at 7:30 am in Asbury Hall. All men are invited. On Sunday, August 14, at the 8:30 service we will be privileged to have with us Ashley Woodard, a contemporary Christian musician, to share with us her witness through music. Those of you who have heard Ashley know what a special gift she has and know how she enhances our service of worship. Join us as we "reconnect" with a young woman of great faith through song! Vacation time is here, and the Chancel Choir is taking a well-deserved one! For the month of August they'll be sitting in the choir loft and singing the hymns with the congregation, but all the special music will be provided by others. So now's your chance to be an honorary or fulltime choir member! Anyone who might like to sit and sing with the choir on Sunday mornings is invited to do so. Just come to the choir room after Sunday School to pick up a hymnal and a bulletin for worship. Our Chancel Choir is a gifted group of people who serve our Lord each and every Sunday by leading us in worship through music. Their commitment and dedication to our church is truly a blessing! COME WORSHIP IN CASUAL ATTIRE..You are encouraged in the hot summer weeks that remain to attend church in casual attire. We want you to be comfortable and relaxed while you worship. The clergy will be in casual attire through the month of August. REMEMBER YOUR CHURCH THIS SUMMER: IN PRAYER IN GIVING IN ATTENDANCE! During the summer months, we ask that you remember that while you may be away, the activities, programs and ministries of Lewisville UMC are continuing, as well as our financial obligations. Most of our church expenses are approximately the same amount each month, even during the summer months. Just as we have to make plans for our vacation or trips during the summer, please also include your church giving in those plans. You can mail your offering in or make it up on a Sunday before you leave or after you return. 5 THIRD GRADERS TO RECEIVE BIBLES ON AUGUST 28. As is customary at LUMC, all rising third graders will receive a Bible on Promotion Sunday, August 28, during the 8:30 am and 11:00 am Worship Services (whichever service you wish to attend). In preparation for this event, we are trying to get as complete a list as possible. Please notify the church at by Wednesday, August 17, or June at junechayes@gmail.com to place your child s name on the list. Thanks for your PROMOTION SUNDAY: August 28. Promotion Sunday details are here! Promotion Sunday will be August 28. It will begin at 9:45 am that morning in the sanctuary. Children (age 2 by August 31, 2016 through rising sixth graders) are invited to be a part of this Promotion Sunday. Children will take part in promotion by receiving a certificate, visiting the classroom, and meeting their new teachers. Parents are asked to stay with their children during the morning s activities. Following classroom visits, everyone is invited to gather in Asbury Hall for fellowship and refreshments at 10:15 am. See you on August 28! Enough: Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity By Adam Hamilton Join Pastor Susan for five weeks as we explore together Adam Hamilton's study "Enough." I chose this project because I want to encourage people of all ages to read more and have access to good reading materials. If anyone would like to donate new or gently used books for my project, that would be amazing! I need primarily children's books and young adult books and will also accept adult novels. Please place the books in the designated box in the church library by the end of August or contact me and I'll pick them up from your house. Connecting with God s Word (Key Scripture for the series): I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who remain connected to me and I to them bear much fruit. (John 15:5). Please refer to the newsletter (can be found on our website for more details about the celebration on 9/11/16. LEWISVILLE IS A STEPHEN MINISTRY CHURCH. Stephen Ministers are trained lay care-givers who provide emotional and spiritual care to persons who are experiencing difficulties in their lives hospitalization, loss of a loved one, loss of job, or any other crisis situation. This is care in addition to the care the pastor gives. If you are interested in having a Stephen Minister, fill out one of the slips in the pew rack and put it in the offering plate or hand it to the minister or one of the Stephen Leaders or Tom Lee. The Lewisville United Methodist Community Medical Transportation Program was begun prior to I remember because Ruth Hurtle, Mary Pratt, and Mary Boyd assisted my brother and me with taking our Mom for daily radiation treatments. My, such a blessing. When she passed away I do not remember who coordinated the program until 1993 when I was asked by Mo Voss to assist her with the program. We have had many volunteers since then. Some of those that you will know who were volunteering as far back as 1993 were Mo Voss (of course), Margaret Lee, Howard Kirk, Betty Leslie, Carol Cox, John Simmons and many others. At that time we had volunteer drivers, transported many of our neighbors in the Lewisville community, and took those who needed medical transportation on a daily basis when needed. Our list of volunteers has dwindled over the years. Now we only have 9 volunteers. We have an urgent need right now. A lady has just moved here to live with her brother. She goes to the Miller Street Dialysis Center on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Her brother is asking for our assistance by picking her up at the Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2pm. I have regular drivers for the Tuesdays and Thursdays, but need a sub for days that they are unable to drive. If you are available to drive as a sub, please call me. The volunteer who picks her up on Tuesdays does not attend our church and lives in Winston-Salem, but has been volunteering for 2-3 years. Her name is Jan Chambers. She is a wonderful person and a friend of Carol Cox. Thanks, Carol. The volunteer for Thursday is our own Suzanne Farlow. Thanks, Suzanne, for adding this to your busy calendar.
