1 Pre-Service Announcements SERVICE OF CELEBRATION TO GOD Palm/Passion Sunday March 20, 2016 Welcome and Registration of Attendance Mrs. Emily Roach Dr. Ivan Peden Prelude Palm Sunday Celebration Handbell Choir Edwards Presenting the Light Olivia and Evan Morris *Pastoral Greeting and Responsive Call to Worship Pastor: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! People: Hosanna in the Highest! Pastor: Dear friends in Christ, during Lent we have been preparing for the celebration of our Lord's suffering, death, and resurrection. On this day our Lord Jesus Christ entered into the holy city of Jerusalem in triumph. The people welcomed him with palms and shouts of praise, but the path before him led to self-giving, suffering and death. Today we greet Jesus as our King, although we know his crown is thorns and his throne a cross. We follow him this week from the glory of the palms to the glory of the resurrection by the dark road of suffering and death, knowing that as we are united with him in his suffering on the cross we also share with him in the resurrection. The Reading of the Gospel for Palm/Passion Sunday: Mark 11:1-11 Mr. Jackson Hayes Pastor: Almighty and Loving God, it is indeed right to give you our thanks and praise for the acts of love by which you have redeemed us through Christ Jesus our Savior. The Hebrews acclaimed Jesus as the Messiah and King with palm branches in their hands, crying Hosanna in the highest! We ask you, O Lord, to bless these branches and make them holy. May we also, carrying them forth from this place and crying out Hosanna in the Highest! and Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!, acclaim Jesus as our Messiah and King and follow Him in the way that leads to eternal life. Amen. *Processional Hymn All Glory, Laud, and Honor UMH, No. 280 Special Music We Have a King Children s Choir Children s Moment Extinguishing the Crown of Thorns Giving of Our Tithes/Offerings and Prayer of Dedication Mrs. June Hayes Mr. and Mrs. Buck Johnson Offertory Hosanna to the Living Lord Mrs. Beth Johnson Dykes *Doxology UMH, No. 94 Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise God, all creatures here below: Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise God, the source of all our gifts! Praise Jesus Christ, whose power uplifts! Praise the Spirit, Holy Spirit! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Cantata *Distribution and Blessing of the Palms (the congregation stands) Pastor: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Pastor: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People: It is right to give God our thanks and praise. *Carrying the Light into the World *Benediction *Chimes of the Trinity *Postlude (* Please stand, as you are able.)
