Will you stand as I read these words from Psalm 98 as our call to worship: CALL TO WORSHIP (Psalm 98:1 3) Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things; His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. The Lord has made his salvation known and revealed his righteousness to the nations. 5 G ATHER C ONFESSION & A SSURANCE CALL TO CONFESSION (1 John 1:9 10) Randy Anderson If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. Join me in turning to God and resting in his grace as we confess together. PRAYER OF CONFESSION ( From the Book of Common Prayer ) Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; in your compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things done and left undone; and so uphold us by your Spirit that we may live and serve you in newness of life, to the honor and glory of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. For all who are in danger, sorrow, or any kind of trouble; For those who minister to the sick, the friendless, and the needy. Today s Scripture reading is from Philippians 3: Please read with me the verses in blue. [12] Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. [13] Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, [14] I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. [15] Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you. [16] Only let us hold true to what we have attained. As I search for spiritual truth, please guide me, teach me, and open to me the life you promise. Amen. Prayer of belief Lord Jesus, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner. Trusting in God's love and in your death and resurrection on my behalf, I ask you to forgive me, merciful Lord, and fill me with your Holy Spirit. Relying upon your grace, I promise to confess you publicly before others, to serve you daily and walk in your way. Amen. Prayer of commitment Lord Jesus, you called your disciples to be baptized and follow your commandments. Grant that I may take the necessary steps to become one with you and with your church, and live in the fullness of your Spirit. Amen.
