5 Sermon Ten Myths of Church Growth Pastor Nick *Closing Hymn Jesus Shall Reign #374 (sing to Duke Street tune, #15) *Benediction Please be seated for a few moments for a special presentation to the Hathaways, to be followed by a luncheon in their honor in the Family Life Center (commonly called the gym.) Sermon Notes Sermon: Ten Myths of Church Growth Pastor Nick 1. Proclaim the gospel only once you get where you're going. 2. The gospel must be proclaimed from a pulpit. 3. Never accuse your audience of sin. 4. Non-Christians don't want to know your views on Christianity. 5. You have to tell people the whole gospel in your first interaction. 6. You need a large gathering place to proclaim the gospel.

6 7. You need to proclaim the gospel briefly. 8. You need to use the New Testament to proclaim the gospel. 9. Issuing warnings to people is the opposite of gospel proclamation. 10. Using shame is an ineffective tool in proclaiming the gospel. Thanks Thank you to all those who helped to make LCS Sunday such a lovely time of worship and fellowship together. 8 Focus on Missions Pray for Ben Weinreich as he prepares to go to Mapuche in southern Chile in mid October with Serge. During the trip he will help build a center which when completed will have a three fold purpose; 1st to bring the gospel to the Mapuche Indians; 2nd to train and send missionaries and 3rd to offer rest and retreat to pastors and church leaders. If you would like to support Ben please place a check in the offering plate and put Chile Trip on the memo line For more details you may pick up a letter on the back table or see Ben. Adult Sunday School Charlie Cate's Sunday School class will not meet on October 1st. Those who attend his class should feel free to attend Howard Hill's class for that one Sunday. An Opportunity to be a Minister of Mercy Liberty's Ministry of Mercy has openings for a few more willing servants. Our Lord calls us to demonstrate our love for Him by loving and caring for each other. The Mercy Needs Ministry does this by sending flowers, cards and notes of encouragement to hurting brethren; providing various forms of practical assistance (including financial, through the generosity of Liberty members) as well as budgetary counseling to those in need; and praying for the flock. We meet together on the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. Ministries of Mercy bless not only those who receive the help, but also those who offer it. Please prayerfully consider participating in this ministry, and contact either Deacon Jeff Jordan or Doug Womer, or Elder Michael Anderson if you are interested. Mercy Needs Requests There is a need in the Body for companionship for a disabled person (ambulatory). This would involve a commitment of several hours per week, two days a week for a lunch outing or similar activity. The Mercy Needs Committee would reimburse for expenses. Please contact Doug Womer or Jeff Jordan from the Mercy Needs Committee if you are interested. Urgent Need for Counting Team Help There is an urgent need for two members to serve on one of our counting teams which counts on Sunday afternoons. Training could start in September. Please contact Brian Moran. Men s Ministry Men s Wednesday Night Bible Study, 7 pm Meets in the Parlor Men Join us for a new study on the Book of Acts as we see how the Lord grows the church and us to maturity. We will delve deep in the Word so

9 that we have a better understanding of scripture and how it applies to our daily lives. Howard Hill will be leading the study with others assisting. Contact Howard or Pastor Barry for more information. A study guide will be provided. To get the most out of our study, we ask you to come prepared by utilizing the study guide. Randallstown Small Group The Randallstown Small Group will not be meeting in September. The next meeting is Sunday, October 15th right after church in fellowship hall. From Pastor Russ Next Sunday I plan to begin the series I m calling Wading into Romans. Over the next several weeks, we ll only be able to proceed a few feet into the deep Roman Sea, but we trust that it will be refreshing and healthful, nonetheless. You may want to bring towels. Youth Group Youth Group is for 6-12 grade students every other Sunday night at 6:30 p.m. in the Block House. The next meeting is TONIGHT. We will be playing games, singing praise songs (If Andrew and Daniel can lead us,) and talking through what the Bible teaches us. The Westminster Confession of Faith will be our curriculum guide. Each week we will try to unpack and put into modern language the Bible truths that are articulated in the Westminster. So, the first week, Sunday, September 10th, we will be talking with the youth about God s Eternal Decree: If God s sovereign is He the author of sin? Does God predestine some people to hell? Does God mearely see into the future and act out accordingly? We won't be communicating what game we'll be playing each week, you'll just have to come to find out. You can bring a snack to share.
