1 First Presbyterian Church April 17, :00 a.m. God s spirit, given by Christ, flows through us as living water to wash, heal, and satisfy. As a congregation we become a fountain, sharing this living water with others Blessed with God s love and grace, we celebrate gifts of diversity. By Jesus Christ s example, we welcome, in love, all who rejoice and worship with us.

2 FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Oak Ridge, Tennessee A Congregation of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) April 17, 2016 Fourth Sunday of Easter *Please stand, in body or in spirit. Text printed in bold italics to be read in unison. Prelude Jesu, Joy of Man s Desiring Bach Chiming of the Hour Welcome Introit This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia! Sing with all the people of God, and join in the hymn of all creation. This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia! *Call to Worship Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed! Sing praises to God, you faithful ones. Remember what God has done and be thankful! Tears may come during the night, but joy comes in the morning. Let us worship God. *Hymn 240 *Call to Confession Alleluia, Alleluia! Give Thanks *Prayer of Confession Almighty and loving God, in the light of your glory we see the evil we have done, and our sin is ever before us. We know too clearly the suffering we have caused, the good we have refused, and the truth we have denied. We deserve your condemnation. Forgive us, Lord. Heal us of our sin, wash us in your mercy, and feed us with your grace, so that we may follow your way and tell the good news of the gospel; in the name of our risen Savior we pray. (time for silent confession) And let God s people say: Amen. *Assurance of Forgiveness *The Peace of Christ Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another. The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. And also with you. Let us share the peace of Christ with one another. 2

3 *Sung response (hymn 59, refrain) The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; God s mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning, new every morning; Great is your faithfulness, O Lord, great is your faithfulness. Anthem Follow Jesus Purifoy Time with the Children Children, second grade and younger, are invited to remain for the rest of the service or go to activity time. First Reading Acts 9 (selected verses) Second Reading John 21:9-19 Sharon Youngs Sermon Broken and Blessed Sharon Youngs *Affirmation of Faith (adapted by members of FPC) We believe in God, the Father Almighty, and in Jesus Christ, His Son, our Lord, and in the Holy Spirit. We seek to know God's will, to walk in God's ways, and to proclaim the Gospel to all people, by our lives as well as by our words. We work and pray for the progress of knowledge, the promotion of justice, the reign of peace, and the realization of human unity in our time. And we look with faith for the triumph of righteousness in our community and in our world. Amen. Offering of God s Tithes and Our Gifts Offertory Give Me Jesus Traditional Spiritual *Doxology and Prayer of Dedication (hymn 609) The Sacrament of Holy Communion Invitation to the Lord s Table Soloist: Come to the table of grace. Come to the table of grace. This is God's table; it's not yours or mine. Come to the table of grace. All: Come to the table of peace... Come to the table of love... Great Prayer of Thanksgiving The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord. It is right to give our thanks and praise. In every time and every age, O God, it is good and faithful that we give you thanks we praise your name and join their unending hymn: 3

4 *Hymn 69 Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory, hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed are you, God, creator of all things we proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. Blessed are you, O Spirit, giver of life God of all that is, now and forever. Amen. Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen. Breaking of the Bread, Pouring of the Cup Sharing of the Elements [You will be served the elements at your seat. You are invited to wait to eat the bread (all gluten-free) until all are served to symbolize the unity we share in Christ. You are invited to drink the cup as you receive it to acknowledge the personal nature of God s grace to each one of us.] Prayer after Communion You have given yourself to us, Lord. Now we rise from this Table to give ourselves for others. May your Spirit continue to strengthen and inspire us in both word and deed, now and always; in Jesus name. Amen. *Charge and Benediction I, the Lord of Sea and Sky *Congregational Response (see inside back cover of hymnal) Irish Blessing Postlude A Mighty Fortress Is Our God Ein Fest Burg Today s flowers are given by the family of Margaret Mott to the glory of God and in Margaret s memory. 4
