2 Prelude FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH A Congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA) SERVICE FOR THE LORD S DAY January 15, 2012, 10:00 a.m. Second Sunday in Ordinary Time Welcome and Announcements GATHERING AROUND GOD S WORD Introit You have called us to be faithful in our life and ministry. We respond in grateful worship joined in one community. When we blur Your gracious image, focus us and make us whole. Healed and strengthened as Your people, we move on toward Your goal. *Call to Worship God, you have searched me and know me. Before a word is on my tongue, you know it. Wherever I go, you lay your hand upon me. Far beyond our understanding are your thoughts and your ways. Wonderful are your works, mighty God. We praise your holy name! *Hymn 474 *Call to Confession *Prayer of Confession O Splendor of God s Glory Bright Mighty God, you are the Creator of all, yet we confess that we have not served you with the fullness of commitment you deserve. You call, O God, but we fail to listen. You ask us to follow, but we go our own way. You offer us new life, but we tread old, familiar paths that are empty and barren. In your mercy, loving God, forgive our sin. Replace our waywardness with faithful trust. Renew our spirits by your Spirit. Free our hearts from the grip of sin. Lead us to follow and serve Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Time for silent confession. And all God s people said: Amen. *Declaration of Forgiveness

Craig Hendrix Newly Elected Elders Come Forward Reaffirmation of the Baptismal Covenant Sentences of Scripture * Profession of Faith From Shepherd to King RESPONDING TO GOD S WORD Trusting in the gracious mercy of God, do you turn from the ways of sin ad renounce evil and its power in the word? I do Do you turn to Jesus Christ and accept him as your Lord and Savior, trusting in his grace and love? I do. Will you be Christ s faithful disciple, obeying his word and showing his love? I will, with God s help. With the whole church, let us confess our faith using the words of the Apostles Creed. Do you believe in God, the Father almighty? I believe in God, the Father the Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. Do you believe in Jesus Christ? I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. Do you believe in the Holy Spirit? I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen
