As a congregation we become a fountain, sharing this living water with others Blessed with God s love and grace, we celebrate gifts of diversity. And yet, we continually fail to keep our promises to you. We hold back from helping others, afraid of running out of resources for ourselves. We hesitate to trust you completely, fearful that you are going to turn your back on us. In short, our timid actions reflect our shaky faith. Have mercy on us, Lord. WORSHIP NOTES It is the Second Sunday in Lent, the season of the liturgical year that leads up to Easter, which is March 27. The liturgical color of purple is reflected in a number of ways, including the pastor s and choir s stoles. Because Lent is a season that is more subdued than others, the banners that usually hang along the side walls of the sanctuary are taken down. Our psalm setting today uses an American folk tune that you may recognize, Shenandoah. This is one of the five psalms set by John Purifoy for the Service of Psalms, which will be next Sunday, Feb. 28, at 5:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church. CLASS ON IMMIGRATION Today is the second week of our Lenten study on immigration. Sharon Youngs will facilitate a discussion on the biblical and theological underpinnings for why we are called to welcome the stranger. The class begins at 1:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Invite your friends and neighbors! Please help Small vases are needed by the flower committee to arrange flowers for homebound members.
