The Lord, your God, is in your midst and will rejoice over you with gladness. The candles of Hope and Peace burn brightly. To them we add the candle of Love. God s love is revealed to us in Emmanuel, God-with-us. We wait for the coming of the One who is Hope and Peace and Love. Come, Lord Jesus. *Call to Confession *Prayer of Confession Savior of the Nations, Come In your presence, Holy God, we confess that we need repentance. We do not live in peace with your creation or with your people. We have not trusted your word, and we are afraid. We do not live as the people of joy you call us to be. Forgive us, restore us, and turn our shame into praise, for the sake of the One who proclaims the good news and for the sake of all the world. (Time for silent confession.) Sharon Youngs *Affirmation of Faith RESPONDING TO GOD S WORD from a Declaration of Faith God sent the promised Deliverer to the people of God. Jesus, the long-expected Savior, came into the world as a child, descended from David, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of Mary, a virgin. He announced the coming of God s kingdom of justice and peace on earth. The coming of Jesus was itself the coming of God s promised rule. Through his birth, life, death, and resurrection, he brings about the relationship between God and humanity that God always intended. A Service of Memory and Hope Scheduled for Dec. 20 While a joyful and festive time of the year, the holiday season can also be a time of sadness and loneliness for some folks. With that in mind, a Service of Memory and Hope will be held in the sanctuary on Thursday, December 20, 6:00 p.m. Led by Pastor Sharon and Meg Tonne, this brief and simple worship service will provide an opportunity for those experiencing grief to remember and celebrate loved ones who have passed away, whether recently, within the past few years, or longer. All are invited. The hymnals are ordered, thanks to your tremendous generosity! 220 pew copies, plus 30 for the choir, 6 large-print editions, a pulpit edition, and some personal copies were ordered this past Friday, which qualified us for a reduced price on pew editions and free shipping! 8 (Announcements - continued) A Presbyterian tradition for seventy years, the Christmas Joy Offering is one of the four special offerings designated by the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to provide congregations direct ways of supporting specific causes that help those in need. You are encouraged to support the Christmas Joy Offering, which will be collected during worship on December 23.
