WORSHIP NOTES Our final hymn today is #700, I'm Gonna Live So God Can Use Me. There are several versions of the text of this African American spiritual, with slight differences in language. In all versions, the phrase so God can use me remains firmly in place, a statement of intention on the part of the singer. The hope of being of use to God s purposes does not seek a personal reward or praise or credit. It is a selfless offering of oneself. We are using guitars, bass, and piano to create a bluesy style as we sing this wonderful spiritual! ECUMENICAL STOREHOUSE VOLUNTEERS FPC and Central Baptist Church will staff the Ecumenical Storehouse in September. Volunteers help receive and pick up donations and work with clients in selecting items they need. FPC is responsible for providing at least five volunteers each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 9:00 a.m.-noon. Saturdays we need people with strong backs to pick up donated items. Beginning on Sept. 9, right after worship, Sharon will be leading a three-week discussion on all things Presbyterian, including particulars about FPC. The gathering is for everyone, especially those who are interested in knowing more about FPC with an eye toward membership. MIDWEEK BIBLE STUDY The midweek Bible meets each Wednesday at 5:45 p.m., in the parlor. The current discussion, led by Sharon Youngs, is on Second Corinthians.

They send us gift cards for a percentage of the value of your donations, which go to Early Head Start to help the families they serve. We recently received 12 gift cards for $10 each to share with EHS. In this way your donations have had a double impact. Thank you. FPC Fifth Sunday celebration on September 30 For our Fifth Sunday in September we will be helping support Soles4Souls, a non-profit organization based in Nashville, TN. Soles4Souls addresses the cycle of poverty in various communities around the world by creating jobs, and through the distribution of shoes and clothing. Do you have shoes that are still wearable but you no longer use? Have your children outgrown some of their shoes before wearing them out? If so, please bring them to the fellowship hall after worship on Sept. 30 and we will donate them to Soles4Souls. (For more information about the organization, visit soles4souls.org.) We will have Soul Food for lunch, too, so please stay after service for food, fellowship, and helping with a good cause.
