Sharon Youngs *Affirmation of Faith (adapted from A Declaration of Faith) God sends us to exercise compassion. Out of concern for justice in the social order, God has never forgotten the needs of individuals. In the end the Lord will judge all persons by the simple, unremembered acts of kindness they did or failed to do for the least of their sisters and brothers. We acknowledge God is at work here and now when people show personal concern for one another and work to make helping agencies, including the church itself, more compassionate. We believe God sends us to risk our own peace and comfort in compassion for our neighbors. Amen. WORSHIP NOTES Our gathering hymn was written by Hubertus Gerardus Josephus Henricus Oosterhuis, b (you may call him Huus for short) He is a controversial Dutch theologian and poet, mainly known for his contributions to Christian music and liturgy in the Dutch language. He is the author of over 60 books, more than 700 hymns and songs, Psalm interpretations, and prayers. Oosterhuis was a Jesuit and is a Roman Catholic priest. Our affirmation of faith today is adapted from A Declaration of Faith, a 1976 study document from the Presbyterian Church in the United States (PCUS). The PCUS was one of the two denominations that reunited in 1983 to form the current Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
