WORSHIP NOTES Ten Lepers Facing Constant Scorn (hymn 179) was created at the Hymnwriters Conference in The successive stanzas deal with narrative, interpretation, and application. In addition to its primary reference to this healing story that occurs only in Luke's gospel, there are overtones of other passages, such as 2 Corinthians 8:3-5 and James 1:18. Fruits of Faithfulness Our monthly focus on stewardship continues today as the children harvest the first apples from the Blessing Tree in the sanctuary. We hope to harvest all of the 37 apples by the end of October, signaling that we have reached our 2017 goal budget of $367,000 (rounded up to $370,000). The envelope in your bulletin is for your pledge card, which you can place in the offering plate today or any Sunday this month. Please pick up your stewardship packet in the fellowship hall after worship if you have not done so already. We ll begin mailing them tomorrow. When is it appropriate? When is it not? This Wednesday s post-dinner discussion focuses on mission as triage, and will include the opportunity coming in January to join a presbytery -wide mission team to do flood relief work in Louisiana. Sharon Youngs and Dan Terpstra will be leading the discussion, 6:15-7:00 p.m., and they welcome all to join in.
