In the Infant Caring Room, parents can care for their children while viewing the worship service live on the closed-circuit TV. Worship begins with the music of the prelude. Please silence all electronic devices. Aria Craig Phillips THE LITURGY OF THE WORD Hymn 135 At the lamb s high feast we sing Salzburg The Acclamation Book of Common Prayer (BCP), p. 355 Celebrant: Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. People: And blessed be his kingdom, now and for ever. Amen The Collect for Purity BCP p. 355 Song of Praise (Epiphany Canticle) Donald Pearson Choir: Arise, shine for your light has come and the glory of the Lord has dawn d upon you. For behold, darkness covers the land, deep gloom enshrouds the peoples. Refrain (sung by all) Choir: For over you the Lord will rise and his glory will appear upon you. Nations will stream to your light and kings to the brightness of your dawning. Refrain Choir: Your gates will always be open by day or night they will never be shut. They will call you the city of the Lord the Zion of the Holy One of Israel. Refrain Choir: Violence will no more be heard in your land. Ruin or destruction within your borders. You will call your walls salvation and all your portals praise. Refrain Choir: The sun will no more be your light by day, by night you will not need the brightness of the moon. The Lord will be your everlasting light and your God will be your glory. Refrain
The Collect of the Day Celebrant: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Celebrant: Let us pray. Almighty God, whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ is the light of the world: Grant that your people, illumined by your Word and Sacraments, may shine with the radiance of Christ's glory, that he may be known, worshipped, and obeyed to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and for ever. Amen. The People are seated. The First Lesson Isaiah 62:1-5 For Zion's sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until her vindication shines out like the dawn, and her salvation like a burning torch. The nations shall see your vindication, and all the kings your glory; and you shall be called by a new name that the mouth of the LORD will give. You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God. You shall no more be termed Forsaken, and your land shall no more be termed Desolate; but you shall be called My Delight Is in Her, and your land Married; for the LORD delights in you, and your land shall be married. For as a young man marries a young woman, so shall your builder marry you, and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you. Reader: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God. Psalm 36:5-10 Peter Hallock Choir: Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens, and your faithfulness to the clouds. Your righteousness is like the strong mountains, your justice like the great deep; you save both man and beast, O Lord. Antiphon Choir: How priceless is your love, O God! Your people take refuge under the shadow of your wings. They feast upon the abundance of your house; you give them drink from the river of your delights. Antiphon Choir: For with you is the well of life, and in your light we see light. Continue your loving-kindness to those who know you, and your favor to those who are true of heart. Antiphon. The Second Lesson 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were pagans, you were enticed and led astray to idols that could not speak. Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking by the Spirit of God ever says "Let Jesus be cursed!" and no one can say "Jesus is Lord" except by the Holy Spirit. Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. To one is given through the Spirit the
utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses. Reader: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God. All children through third grade are invited to follow the crucifer to Children s Chapel. Parents may accompany them and then return to the Church. The children will return before the Peace. The People stand. Hymn 46 (from Lift Every Voice and Sing II)
The Gospel John 2:1-11 Deacon: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John. People: Glory to you, Lord Christ. On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine." And Jesus said to her, "Woman, what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come." His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." Now standing there were six stone water jars for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to them, "Fill the jars with water." And they filled them up to the brim. He said to them, "Now draw some out, and take it to the chief steward." So they took it. When the steward tasted the water that had become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward called the bridegroom and said to him, "Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. But you have kept the good wine until now." Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee, and revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him. Deacon: The Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to you, Lord Christ. The Sermon A period of silence for reflection will follow the sermon. The Rev. Timothy Seamans The People stand. The Nicene Creed BCP, p. 358 The People stand or kneel. The Prayers of the People When the Intercessor says, God in your mercy, the People respond Hear our prayer. The Confession and Absolution BCP, p. 360 The Peace BCP, p. 308 Welcome and Announcements Offertory Come, my Way, my Truth, my Life: such a way as gives us breath; such a truth as ends all strife; such a life as killeth death. Come, my Light, my Feast, my Strength: such a light as shows a feast; such a feast as mends in length; such a strength as makes his guest. Come, my Joy, my Love, my Heart: such a joy as none can move; such a love as none can part; such a heart as joys in love. Text: George Herbert Music: Craig Phillips THE HOLY COMMUNION All are welcome to the Table. If you require a gluten-free wafer, please ask the clergy administering the bread. The People stand. Hymn 599 Lift every voice and sing Lift every voice and sing
The Great Thanksgiving / Eucharistic Prayer B BCP, p. 367 Celebrant: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Celebrant: Lift up your hearts. People: We lift them to the Lord. Celebrant: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People: It is right to give him thanks and praise. Celebrant: It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; because in the mystery of the Word made flesh, you have caused a new light to shine in our hearts, to give the knowledge of your glory in the face of your son Jesus Christ our Lord. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name: Sanctus S-125 Proulx The People stand or kneel. Celebrant: We give thanks to you, O God, for the goodness Therefore, according to his command, O Father, All: We remember his death, we proclaim his resurrection, we await his coming in glory; Celebrant: And we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, O Lord of all; presenting to you, from your creation, this bread and this wine. By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever. Amen. Celebrant: And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say, The Lord s Prayer BCP, p. 364 The Breaking of the Bread BCP, p. 364 Celebrant: Alleluia. Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. People: Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia. Celebrant: The Gifts of God for the People of God.
Communion Anthem O Redeeming Sacrifice, which opens the gate of heaven: enemies threaten wars; give us strength, send aid. Amen.
