On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. THE PRAYERS A We wait in hope. In 2005, the Orphan Foundation of America (now Foster Care to Success) launched a unique initiative to warm the hearts (and necks) of college-bound foster youth. They began taking donations of handmade red scarves to put into Valentine s Day Care Packages that were sent to foster youth in college. Since the first Valentine s Day care packages were mailed in 2005, they have delivered over 20,000 red scarves to foster youth in colleges and training programs across the country. Our donation remind the foster youth that many of us care about them. FOOD BANK OFFERING: We invite you to participate in our monthly offering for Emergency Feeding Program through the pew envelope. Our monthly goal is $500. Mark your checks for EFP on the memo line. Any non-perishable food donations can be placed in the Corner of Blessing in the narthex. 4
5 ADVENT AT SAINT ANDREW S In a sermon preached on Christmas day in 1530 Martin Luther said, Christ is not only the virgin s Son, but also the Lord of angels and the Savior of men (LW 51:213). In other words as we prepare this Advent season for the birth of Christ we would be wise to remember that this child who we wait for isn t just any child. He is the Son of God, OUR SAVIOR. This precious insight is the inspiration for our Advent theme this year: Promise. Week One: Promise in the Future Week Three: Promise Embodied Week Two: Promise being Prepared Week Four: Promise FOR YOU ADVENT DEVOTIONALS: Devotionals for adults, children, and families are in the Narthex. The Program Staff has written a devotional booklet for Advent. Copies are in the Narthex. Visit to find the booklet in PDF form that can be downloaded to your electronic device. ADVENT MID-WEEK WORSHIP are Wednesdays, December 10 and 17. Soup Supper is served at 6:15 pm in 301/Fellowship Hall North. Holden Evening Prayer is at 7:00 pm in 213/Sanctuary. Our devotional words focus on the Promise of the Old Testament prophesies. Vicar Cheung is our devotional leader for December 10, and the text is Malachi 3:1-7. Volunteers are needed to serve the Soup Supper on Wednesday, December 17. Contact the church office, , if you can help. ADVENT OUTREACH: Please note these opportunities for special outreach during Advent. The Love Tree is in the Narthex. Thank you for providing Christmas gifts to those served by Columbia Lutheran Home, Imagine Housing, King County Youth Detention Center, and Eastside Baby Corner. Due to the cold weather this past week, gifts may be returned to the tree no later than Monday, December 8, by 12:00 noon. For more information, contact Joyce Arnold. MaaSAE Girls Lutheran Secondary School (MGLSS) Uniforms: We have the privilege of purchasing uniforms for the 50 new Form 1 students at MGLSS in Tanzania. The display is near the elevator in the Narthex. Each total outfit (skirt, t-shirt, sweatshirt, underwear, shoes and socks) costs $50 and lasts the girl two years. Donations (checks payable to Saint Andrew s Lutheran Church with MGLSS Uniforms on the memo line or cash in an envelope designated MGLSS Uniforms ) can be placed in the offering plate or brought to the church office. Then, take one of the little girl figures off the display. It lets us know how many have been clothed and also it gives you another tree ornament as a prayer reminder for these young girls as they begin their educational journey. For more information, contact Joyce Arnold. Socks: Throughout December, Dorcas Circle is collecting new white crew socks and new white tube socks for Compass Housing Alliance. Place your donations in the Sox Box in the Narthex. Contact Linda Willenberg for more information. NEXT SUNDAY AT SAINT ANDREW S EQUAL EXCHANGE FAIRLY TRADED COFFEE AND MORE: Support our Global Outreach by purchasing fairly traded coffee, tea, hot cocoa, and chocolate bars (in the Narthex between services). By purchasing these items, you help the coffee and cocoa bean farmers in impoverished countries receive more money for their crops by eliminating the middle man s cut. 5
