The Love Tree will be in the Narthex, and everyone will have the opportunity to take a tag (or two!) and purchase Christmas gifts for those in need. Gifts need to be returned to the tree no later than Sunday, December 7. We also have the privilege of purchasing uniforms for the 50 new Form 1 students at the MaaSAE Girls Lutheran Secondary School (MGLSS) in Tanzania. Look for the display near the elevator in the Narthex. For more information, contact Joyce Arnold. 4
5 NEXT SUNDAY AT SAINT ANDREW S ADVENT BEGINS next Sunday, November 30. In a sermon preached on Christmas day in 1530 Martin Luther said, Christ is not only the virgin s Son, but also the Lord of angels and the Savior of men (LW 51:213). In other words as we prepare this Advent season for the birth of Christ we would be wise to remember that this child who we wait for isn t just any child. He is the Son of God, OUR SAVIOR. This precious insight is the inspiration for our Advent theme this year: Promise. Please note... The Advent Fair is next Sunday at 9:45 am. Join us for this annual intergenerational event as we enter the season of waiting! It is a time for fellowship, treats, crafts, and activities for all ages. Advent devotionals written by our Program Staff and devotionals for children and families will be available too! Help is needed for this event. To volunteer, visit advent/ or sign up in the narthex. For more information, contact Mary Davis. The Program Staff has written a devotional booklet for Advent. Copies will be available beginning November 30, both in booklet form and a PDF form that can be downloaded to your electronic device. WORSHIP SERVICE CAPTIONING: Next Sunday, real-time captioning of the 11:00 am worship service is available, making our worship service accessible to those who are hard-of-hearing or cannot be at church. You can use your smartphone, PC, or tablet to access the captioning (the sanctuary has a WiFi connection.) Go to: (If you see a login page, the captioning is not yet active. Refresh your browser near the beginning of the worship service.) The website displays real-time captions of what is being spoken in the service, similar to closed captioning on television. SPECIAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR CHILDREN AND TEENS CHILDREN S CHOIR: We welcome all children who would like to be in the Children s Choir for the December 21 Children s Christmas Pageant. The Choir will sing about two or three pieces at both services. The Choir will meet for rehearsals Sunday afternoons at 3:00 pm beginning today, November 16, through December 14, in 215/Music Room. If you are interested please contact Children s Choir Director Erin Simpson or Director of Music Ministries Dr. Will Simpson, will@salchome.org. CHILDREN S CHRISTMAS PAGEANT: We would like to invite all Sunday School children to participate in this year s Christmas Pageant. We have a strong tradition of the children sharing the Good News of the birth of Jesus. This year, our program will look different as we will worship together while the children share the story through the Gospel and music at each service. Rehearsals for the program will be Saturdays, December 13 and 20, at 9:00 am. If your child is available and interested in participating in the program through the story, in the Children s Choir, or both, please contact Nona Gram, Interim Coordinator of Christian Education, nona@salchome.org. CHRISTMAS EVE PRELUDE MUSIC: We welcome all children and teens to consider sharing a piece for the prelude music to the 5:00 pm worship service on Christmas Eve. The piece does not have to be Christmas themed but can be something you played in a recital. Contact Dr. Will Simpson, will@salchome.org or , if you would like to participate or for more information. 5
