NEXT SUNDAY AT SAINT ANDREW S SPECIAL WORSHIP MUSIC/PROGRAM: The Children s Christmas Program and Children s Choir will be a part of both worship services. We will worship together while the children share the Good News of the birth of Jesus through the Gospel and music. CHILDREN S CHRISTMAS PROGRAM: All Sunday School children are invited to participate in this year s Christmas Program next Sunday, December 20, at both worship services. Rehearsals for the program will be next Saturday, December 19, at 9:00 am. 6 SUNDAY CONCERT SERIES: Our Sunday Concert Series begins with Ring, Little Bells, a concert by Bells of the Sound, a premier handbell choir. The jingle from Santa s sleigh, the pealing from the church tower - bells little and large are an integral part of Christmas throughout the world! This magical program is filled with the delightful klingelingeling of handbells. From Away in a Manger to Feliz Navidad - and of course, Jingle Bells - you ll be ringing with Christmas spirit in no time! The concert is next Sunday, December 20, at 4:00 pm in 213/Sanctuary. As always, the concert is free and open to the public. Saint Andrew s members Bryant and Vanessa Wilkie are members of Bells of the Sound. ADVENT AT SAINT ANDREW S ADVENT: As we come together again to wait for the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ we gather around the theme A Light in the Midst of Darkness. This theme is all about seeing and naming God in a world where Sin overwhelms. As we draw closer to recalling the birth of Jesus we are reminded that He will come again, and when He returns, the darkness will be turned to light, our fears will be overcome, and our hope fulfilled. ADVENT DEVOTIONALS: The Program Staff has written a devotional book for Advent. Copies are in the Narthex. A PDF file that can be downloaded to your electronic device is also available; visit and select the link 2015 Advent Devotion Book from the home page. Devotionals for children and families are in the Narthex. ADVENT MID-WEEK WORSHIP is on Wednesdays, December 16, and 23. Soup Supper is served at 6:15 pm in 301/Fellowship Hall North. Thank you to Health and Wholeness Ministry for providing soup on December 16. They will be serving Taco Soup. Holden Evening Prayer is at 7:00 pm in 213/Sanctuary. Our devotional words focus on the book of Isaiah, with Pastor Paul E. Hoffman as our devotional leader. Pastor Hoffman served as Pastor of Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church until his retirement in May He is a pastor, author, and teacher. December 16: Isaiah 35:1-10 December 23: Isaiah 7:10-16 Volunteers are needed to serve the Soup Supper on Wednesday, December 23. SPECIAL ADVENT OUTREACH: Uniforms for MaaSAE Girls Lutheran Secondary School (MGLSS) Students: We can clothe a Maasai girl in her new uniform at MGLSS. A $50 contribution purchases an outfit which includes 2 logo t-shirts, a khaki skirt, a red sweatshirt, a pair of black shoes, 3 pairs of socks, and 3 pairs of underwear. These will be washed weekly and well-cared for to last for 2 years. Then they get the waist adjusted on their skirt (they grow quite a bit during those years!) and 2 new t-shirts. See the display in the Narthex. Fifty outfits are needed. Checks can be made payable to Saint Andrew s Lutheran Church with MGLSS Uniforms on the memo line. Place cash donations in an envelope designated MGLSS Uniforms. Donations can be put in the offering plate or returned to the church office. Then, please take one of the little girl figures off the display in the Narthex. It lets us know how many have been clothed and gives you a tree ornament as a prayer reminder for these young girls as they begin their educational journey. For more information, contact Jean Wahlstrom. SOCKS FOR COMPASS HOUSING ALLIANCE: Dorcas Circle is collecting new, white crew and tube socks. We collected 190 pairs of socks in November to help those served by Compass Housing Alliance stay warm this winter. YOUTH EDUCATION MINISTRIES (SUNDAYS AT 9:45 AM) SUNDAY CHURCH SCHOOL (age 2 through grade 5): All children are invited to join our Sunday Church School classes, held during the Education Hour at 9:45 am. All classes meet downstairs in the Education Wing. Two-year olds through Kindergarten students begin each Sunday with Music in Room 106. The SCS office is located on the lower level near the narthex stairs. Students who are new to our congregation are asked to come to the SCS office to register and receive a class assignment. AFFIRMATION OF BAPTISM/ CONFIRMATION (ABC) (grades 6-8): Classes are on Sundays at 9:45 am. Those students new to our congregation are asked to contact Pastor Telyea for more information. CROSSWALK (grades 9-12): Join us at 9:45 am on the couch side of the Youth Room. Today we are having our Christmas Party and white elephant gift exchange! This is a time of shared conversation around Luke 1 and 2. It also serves as an introduction to the Gospel of Luke, from which most of the Gospel Readings come in the liturgical year. 7

Our theme is Luke, from the Inside Out. We began our study on the mount of the Transfiguration, Luke 9: It is as if Jesus journey to the Cross is like an exodus event in the Old Testament. Our study continued to listen to Jesus words about the cost of discipleship, Luke 9: Then, the sending of the seventy to be in mission, Luke 10:1-24. We will continue this week the Parable of the Good Samaritan and Jesus teachings on prayer, Luke 10:25-11:28. This will be our LAST class for We will resume again on Tuesday, January 5, with Jesus being challenged by the Pharisees, Luke 11:14-12:12. Bring your favorite translation and join in the fun. FIRE FORCE (youth in grades 6-8): Sunday Night Fire Force Sundays, 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm, 319/Youth Room TODAY, December 13: Sunday Night Fire Force Christmas Party with White Elephant Gift Exchange. 9 Y MAASAE GIRLS SCHOOL GRADUATE BEGINS UNIVERSITY: Naishiye Eliakimu, whom the Tuesday Morning Men and Saint Andrew s Men s Ministry (SAM) have supported since she began MaaSAE Girls Lutheran Secondary School (MGLSS), has graduated with high honors and earned admission to University of Dar es Salaam, Mkwara Branch, in Iringa, Tanzania. The Men s Ministry feels strongly led to continue to support her education, which for next year is over $2000. If you wish to join us in supporting her, please make checks payable to Saint Andrew s and note Men s Ministry - MaaSAE Student Support in the memo line. There will be 25 new Form One students needing scholarship help beginning next January. A full scholarship for a student, Forms One through Four (grades 8 11), is $1,000; a half scholarship is $500.
