4 ADVENT BEGINS: Divine Intrusion: The Greatest Gift is our Advent theme. The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, Generous inside and out, true from start to finish. (John 1:14 The Message) is the meaning of incarnation. The wait begins for us in Advent. Hard news in a not to wait culture, but for those who walk the way of the Church Year, an opportunity to hear and lean deeply into the truth that God s compassion and mercy finds final form in Jesus, born of Mary and Joseph. The wait won t be long, four weeks of preparation and rekindled hope in the promise that Jesus is coming soon! W E L C O M E t o d a y A T S A I N T A N D R E W S AFFIRMATION OF BAPTISM/ CONFIRMATION (ABC) is one step in the faith development of the baptized. Set aside this time for fellowship, treats, crafts and activities for all ages. Pick up your Advent devotionals too! December 9 THE JEWISH UNDERSTANDING OF MESSIAH Presenter: Rabbi Mark Glickman Judaism and Christianity understand the word messiah in vastly different ways. In his talk, Rabbi Mark Glickman will discuss traditional and modern Jewish understandings of what the messiah is, and how those perspectives have influenced Jews and non-jews throughout history. Why don t Jews believe that Jesus was the messiah? How can they reject Jesus as messiah even though Jesus was Jewish? And what do Jews mean when using this oft-misunderstood and emotionally-laden term? Rabbi Glickman will address all of these questions and more in what promises to be an enlightening experience for us all. Rabbi Glickman is the Rabbi of Congregation Kol Ami in Woodinville WA, and of Congregation Kol Shalom on Bainbridge Island WA. He is also a regular religion columnist for the Seattle Times. December 9 KNITWITS Facilitator: Dianne Chong Conference Room The KnitsWits (Knitting as Witnesses) are a fellowship group whose primary mission is to provide items of comfort that are knit and/or crocheted. December 16 and 23 DISCOVERING GOD S GREATEST GIFT Facilitator: Pastor Telyea Fellowship Hall North In Matthew 16:15 we hear Jesus ask the disciples, Who do you say I am? The question is simple, but for thousands of years we have struggled to understand who Jesus is. Is he God? Is he merely human? Is he sometimes human and sometimes God? How do we understand who God is? These questions are especially important during Advent as we prepare for the coming of our Lord. Join Pastor Telyea as he leads you on a journey to discover God s greatest gift, and don t forget to bring your Bibles! A D U L T E D U C A T I O N D U R I N G T H E W E E K TUESDAY MORNING MEN (TMM) Facilitator: Dave Marcrander (6:30 am in the Library) We will conclude our dialog surrounding the book Letters from the Land of Cancer by Walt Wangerin in early December, and then begin a Bible study for the Advent/Christmas/Epiphany Season.
