I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. 5 Road Work on SE 28th Street This week, Puget Sound Energy will begin work to replace a natural gas main on SE 28th Street (the street that leads to the church parking lot.) The road will not be completely closed, but reduced to one lane with flaggers managing traffic. No driveways should ever be blocked. Construction is expected to last for four weeks. The SE 28th Street work will be done Monday through Friday during the work day. This is a wonderful way to get acquainted and greet those around you. BLOOD PRESSURE CHECK: Come to Room 212 between 9:30 am and 10:30 am. Health care professionals from Health and Wholeness Ministry will take your blood pressure and discuss concerns. The vision of the Discipleship Ministries Committee is To gather, encourage and equip all people through active learning, how to embody faith in Jesus as they are sent into the world. SUNDAY DISCIPLESHIP MINISTRIES...YOUTH (9:45 AM) SUNDAY CHURCH SCHOOL (age 2 through grade 5): All children are invited to join our Sunday Church School classes, held during the Education Hour at 9:45 am. All classes meet downstairs in the Education Wing. Two-year olds through Kindergarten students begin each Sunday with Music in Room 106. The SCS office is located on the lower level near the narthex stairs. Students who are new to our congregation are asked to come to the SCS office to register and receive a class assignment. AFFIRMATION OF BAPTISM/ CONFIRMATION (ABC) (grades 6-8): Classes are on Sundays at 9:45 am. Those students new to our congregation are asked to contact Pastor Telyea for more information. CROSSWALK (grades 9-12): Join us at 9:45 am in 319/Youth Room! TODAY, April 24, is an Oasis Sunday! Busy schedules and responsibilities can lead high school students to feeling like the world is on their shoulders. Sometimes it feels that there is no time to just be a kid. For 1 hour on the last Sunday of each month, our high school students enjoy Oasis. At our Oasis, you may enjoy a light hearted movie, coloring (with choices of Praying in Color, Adult Coloring Books, and kid coloring books), along with easy non directed conversation. We invite you to be a kid with us from 9:45 am - 10:45 am! YOUTH REGISTRATION FORMS: We still welcome youth registration forms, if you have not yet completed one for

6 SUNDAY DISCIPLESHIP MINISTRIES...ADULTS (9:45 AM) Sundays through May 8 THE COURAGE TO LIVE Presenter: Pastor Wesley Telyea 301/Fellowship Hall North Adult Education complements Pastor Telyea s Easter sermons, exploring the birth of discipleship in the book of Acts and what it means to live faithful lives today. The texts for this class are: April 24: Acts 8:26-40 May 8: Acts 1:1-12 May 1: Acts 28:23-28 Today, Pastor McEachran teaches the class. April 24 STEPPING INTO PRAYER (Faith Stepping Stones for Parents of 2-Year-Olds) Facilitators: Lois Nelson and Kari Henderson 322/Conference Room Sessions focus on how parents and children can pray together at home. Simple prayer pillows are made. These prayer pillows are presented to the children during the 11:00 am worship service TODAY, April 24. Parents and children also participate in an activity on sharing prayer ideas to be placed on prayer cards for the pillows. May 1 STEPPING INTO AFFIRMATION OF BAPTISM (Faith Stepping Stones for Parents of Fifth Graders) Facilitators: Lois Nelson and Kari Henderson 322/Conference Room This session is a time for parents to discuss the transition from elementary school to middle school, and to ask questions about academics, time management, and social issues. Session Two will be held in the fall of the students 6th grade year, and focuses on the faith development of middle schoolers. Students are presented with a Catechism in the fall of their 6th grade year. DISCIPLESHIP MINISTRIES...ADULT TUESDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY Presenter: Pastor McEachran Every Tuesday, 9:30 am, 322/Conference Room Our theme is Encouraging Words for Church Leaders. We are working our way through The Pastoral Epistles, 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus. What are the expectations of those who lead the community of Christ? Read 2 Timothy and Titus, and note your questions and insights. On Tuesday, May 10, we will begin a study of Jude and 2 Peter with the theme Watch Out for False Teaching. Bring your favorite translation, and invite a friend. Pastor McEachran teaches the class. THE COURAGE TO LIVE SMALL GROUPS Wednesdays, April 27 and May 4 Off-site Complementing Pastor Telyea s sermon series, small groups meet in leaders homes on Wednesdays for four more weeks: April 20, April 27, and May 4. During the time the small group goes through a program where you: Eat Dwell Pray. EAT: Each small group member or couple will bring a dish to share with the group for dinner. DWELL: After eating, the group will read a passage from scripture and have a discussion the group leader guides from material provided by Pastor Telyea. 7 GOD SQUAD (youth in grades 9-12): Seattle Retreat: Please note that this retreat has been canceled. DISCIPLESHIP MINISTRIES...YOUTH SUMMER 2016 MISSION TRIPS: This summer, both Fire Force and God Squad will go on Mission Trips. To sign up and for information, contact Emily Harrow, The God Squad trip is open to youth currently in grades We will embark on a mystery tour of the Pacific Northwest, June 24 - July 1. Our trip will include service learning and adventure. Our next team meeting is Sunday, May 15, at 12:15 pm in 319/Youth Room. The Fire Force trip is open to youth currently in grades 6-8. We are headed back to Idaho July 31 - August 5 to serve with Idaho Servant Adventures. Our next team meeting is Sunday, May 15, at 4:00 pm in 319/Youth Room. SHEEP AND SHEPHERDS (families with children age birth through grade 5): Serve at Emergency Feeding Program (EFP): Saturday, April 30, 9:00 am - 11:00 am. Sheep and Shepherds are experiencing what it means to give and what it means to serve. Families are participating in a scavenger hunt, gathering Emergency Feeding Program s (EFP) most needed items. Next Saturday, April 30, at 9:00 am, families will bring the items to the EFP warehouse in Renton, where they will learn about the program. Children 8 or older will help pack bags that will be handed out at distribution centers all around the greater Seattle Area (including Saint Andrew s!) Children under 8 will help decorate bags used for snack packs. Next Sunday, May 1, before Sunday Church School starts, take a field trip to the EFP office at Saint Andrew s to meet EFP volunteer Debbie Szabo, who will speak about the distribution side of the EFP, and see where the bags they packed on Saturday go and hear about who they benefit. OUTREACH AND SERVANT MINISTRIES Y BASKETS OF PROMISE PERSONAL CARE Y HONORING VETERANS: Our Veteran Support KIT ITEMS: Health and Wholeness Ministry is Team will once again host BBQ Burgers and Dogs collecting items for spring shipment of Personal Memorial Day Dinner for the veterans and other Care Kits. There is great need for these kits in residents of Andrew s Glen (an Imagine Housing the refugee camps in the mid-east. Items for this property), on Memorial Day, May 30, beginning at shipment are welcome through tomorrow, 5:00 pm. Set up and grilling will commence about April 25. You can help with donations of: 3:30 pm. If you can participate by contributing Nail Clippers (metal, large or small) food items or co-hosting our guests, please contact Combs (large, sturdy) Linda Gilham and Dave Marcrander. Toothbrushes (adult size) Y EMERGENCY FEEDING PROGRAM (EFP): Bath Towels (dark color, light weight, 27 x52 Each month, we collect one food item in the Corner maximum size) of Blessing. All donations go to EFP to help feed Bath Soap (4 to 5 ounce bars) those in our community who are hungry. In April, Place your donations in the basket labeled Personal we are collecting juice boxes and juice pouches. Care Kits near the elevator in the Narthex. In May, we ll collect SPAM. 8 8 Fifth Sunday of Easter April 24, 2016 Y CONGREGATIONS FOR THE HOMELESS (CFH) helps homeless men journey toward independence and a home of their own. We are collecting donations for CFH in the basket in the Narthex. They are in need of toiletries (especially toothbrushes and toothpaste), men s clothing, blankets, towels, and new underwear. Y THE SOPHIA WAY: The Sophia Way helps homeless women journey toward independence and a home of their own. They currently do not have room to accept any donations of items. For other ways to help, visit SAINT ANDREW S OPPORTUNITIES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS Ì MEMBERSHIP: Are you interested in becoming a member of Saint Andrew s? Ì YOUNG ADULTS (those who have graduated high school and older): On the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month, young adults of Saint Andrew s get together for dinner at 6:30 pm. The April 27 dinner will be hosted by Alex Nichols- Hicks. He will be making spaghetti and meatballs with vegetarian options. You are invited to bring drinks or a side dish. Y SCHOLARSHIP NEEDS FOR STUDENTS IN TANZANIA: Scholarship sponsors are needed for several students in Tanzania: At MaaSAE Girls Lutheran Secondary School (MGLSS) scholarship sponsors are needed for 12 students: 4 Form One students, 5 in Form Two, and 3 students in Form Five/Six. A full scholarship for a student in Forms One-Four is $1,000 ($1200 for Forms Five/Six); a half scholarship is $500 ($600 for Forms Five/Six). If you can help sponsor a student, contact the church office. If you cannot provide a full- or half-scholarship, any donation amount is welcomed and needed. Make a contribution to Saint Andrew s with MaaSAE Scholarship in the memo line. Donations are combined until a half- or fullsponsorship level is reached, and then the funds are forwarded to Operation Bootstrap Africa. Witness Lengulayai is a graduate of MGLSS and is now in her first year, B.S. of Education in Science (a much needed teaching field) at the University of Dar es Salaam (top university in Tanzania). Her education was being sponsored by a group at another church, but they are unable to continue their financial support. Jean Wahlstrom knows Witness well and knows her to be a great leader in chapel worship and well-respected on campus. If you can help sponsor Witness, please contact Jean Wahlstom. Ì CHILI COOK-OFF AND AUCTION: Everyone is invited to a Chili Cook Off and Silent Auction next Saturday, April 30, from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm in 301/Fellowship Hall. Sponsored by our God Squad Summer 2016 Mission Team, this is a fun fellowship event for the entire congregation! Cook up a pot of chili and see how it compares to others in the congregation (there are 6 chili entries so far.) There are prizes for the top chilies! Or just come and taste (and vote for your favorite!) Put some bids on great auction items too. All proceeds support the God Squad Summer 2016 Mission Team, and they promise an evening of laughter and merriment! Ì SUNDAY CONCERT SERIES: THE EMMAUS TRIO Sunday, May 15, 3:00 pm, The Emmaus Trio is Karin Islip, violin; Lauren Root, cello; and Dr. Will Simpson, piano. Last summer, this trio began rehearsing together on a weekly basis. They enjoy performing both standard repertoire works as well as works that are unique and rarely performed. On Sunday, May 15, at 3:00 pm, they will play Beethoven s Piano Trio opus 70 no. 2, a work of tremendous power and scope, and one of Beethoven s greatest chamber works. They will also feature a Tango by Astor Piazzolla, and a beautiful piece, Circullo, by Joaquin Turina. As always, our concerts are free and open to the public. Invite a friend! (Women s Evening Book Study) invites all women to join us for fellowship, devotions, and discussion. Our spring session s book is Miss Brenda and the Loveladies, by Brenda Spahn and Irene Zutell. This is the story of Brenda s journey from rags to riches to redemption. It s the story of the first unlikely year of her Whole Way House... a story that testifies to the power of faith and how God changes hearts every day. Their vision is To gather, encourage and equip all people through active learning, how to embody faith in Jesus as they are sent into the world. As they put this vision into practice, they are looking at how they use volunteers and how they utilize the gifts in our community. They would appreciate your feedback in a two-question survey. 10 Ì TUESDAY MORNING MEN (TMM) Facilitator: Dave Marcrander Every Tuesday, 6:30 am, Room 212 Tuesday Morning Men (TMM) meets for study, faith growth, prayer and conversation. Join us anytime and kick off your Tuesdays with friends and fellowship. We continue our faith growth by reading and discussing Romans for Everyone by N.T. Wright. Ì EMERGENCY OPERATIONS PLAN: Saint Andrew s will develop an Emergency Operations Plan for our campus this year. The plan will address safety, security and communications regarding catastrophic events: fire, earthquake, violence, etc. Volunteers are needed to help develop that plan. It is anticipated this will involve no more than two meetings per month for six months. Current or former first responders or military would be especially valuable volunteers. If interested, please contact Facilities Manager Kurt Lutterman, kurt@salchome.org or At a later stage, we will involve the entire congregation to refine that plan. Ì COUNTERS: Counters work in teams of two, usually on Monday mornings, to count the offering money from Sundays. They are scheduled to count for one month at a time, every 4-5 months. Two volunteers are needed: one to be the counter and one to input the contributions into the computer. No experience is required; we will train you.
