11 Saint Andrew s is participating in a national effort to help those who are hungry. Twenty six years ago, the SOUPer Bowl of Caring began with a simple prayer by a single youth group: Lord, even as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us to be mindful of those without a bowl of soup to eat. Since then, more than $100 million has been raised for local charities across the country through SOUPer Bowl of Caring. It is transforming the time around Super Bowl weekend into one of the nation s largest celebrations of giving and serving. Hunger is everywhere in our community, from the suburbs on the Eastside to South King County to the streets of Downtown Seattle. It affects everyone: working families, the elderly, young adults even children. One in five households in Washington State doesn t have enough money to feed their families. TODAY, February 7, Super Bowl Sunday, we are having a special collection to address hunger in our neighborhoods. Fellow members of Saint Andrew s are in the Narthex, collecting food and donations for this effort. The food items we are collecting are: Canned Soup (of course it s the SOUPer Bowl!) Canned Chili Canned Tuna Everything will go to the Emergency Feeding Program of Seattle and King County (EFP). All of the money donated will be used by EFP to buy the food items required to provide needed nutrition to these hungry neighbors. So, let s make a big difference (a SOUPer Difference) for those who are hungry! 11
