2 From the Deacon s Desk One might imagine that once they Discover Jesus and come to have faith in him, their lives would become easier, after all, you re coming into a relationship with God, the creator of the universe. In this weekend s Gospel, Peter finds out this may not be the case. Jesus rebukes him for thinking not as God does, but as humans do. Having a relationship with Jesus does not necessarily mean that our lives will become better in the eyes of the world. It just means our eyes and our hopes on things that are beyond this world. As the prophet Isaiah says, The Lord God is my help, therefore I am not disgraced. The Lord God sent Jesus into this world, so that we might live eternally with him in the next. This hope is what can make one lose their life for the sake of the Gospel. This letter tells about the nature of the Church and shows us the great inheritance that awaits us as sons and daughters adopted fully into the family of God. We will be reading and discussing Jesus Approaches: What Contemporary Women can Learn About Healing, Freedom and Joy from the Women of the New Testament, by Elizabeth M. Kelly. This book includes stories of New Testament women whose encounters with Jesus freed them to flourish in life, and the stories are supplemented with moving accounts from Kelly s own life and from the lives of other women like us.
