Luke Ferris Jesus took Peter, John, and James and went up the mountain to pray. (Luke 9:28b) Jesus invites us this Lent to a mountaintop to pray. This invitation is similar to one we received on Ash Wednesday when our Lord urges us to go to into our room and shut the door when we pray. This prayer is difficult but rewarding. Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep, but becoming fully awake, they saw his glory (Luke 9:32) Jesus wants to awaken us to the glory that God has for each of us when he lifts our sights above concerns that weigh us down. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, This is my chosen Son; listen to him. (Luke 9:35) The key words seem to be chosen and listen to him. How do we choose Jesus over lesser things this Lent? How do we listen to him and not other voices during these 40 days? Gratefully yours, Fr. She is a strong advocate of abortion rights. He said One cannot protest domestic violence outside the womb and be in favor of violence and denial of life in the home of the womb.
