2 From the Deacon s Desk Jesus is truly present. Is this true for you? Deacon Jim This weekend, the first part of the Gospel in the same section from the end of the Gospel from last weekend. I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world. John 6:51 Jesus is not backing away from this. He is very direct and clear about who he is, what this means and what will happen. The question for the people at the time and for us today, do we believe him? Do we believe that Jesus is truly present in the Blessed Sacrament? We should. Just as now, the people following Jesus were looking for the truth. They were looking for understanding and desired community. Yet when offered a truth that might conflict with some of their own personal desires, they turn and leave. Today there are many people who don t believe in the True Presence of our Lord in the Eucharist, and some of them are Catholics. Today, we may not believe everything The Church teaches, and this may cause to say that the teaching are too hard, the Church needs to get with the times. The people of Jesus time grumbled and disagreed just as they did with Moses. This is nothing new. The question for them and for each of us today is Do we believe what Jesus says? As we know Jesus better, it is easier to understand his teachings and love. Father Tom has been preaching about getting to know Jesus better, through the Holy Scriptures, daily and Sunday Mass, in Adoration, Holy Hours, and in the loving presence of God s mercy in reconciliation. In addition, Sacred Heart has made available the website FORMED.ORG (parish code 6JKJBF) for the parish as a way to connect to your faith any time with a smart device or computer. This site offers reflections on the upcoming Mass, movies about the saints, videos and talks about current issues, resources for study about the Church and the Sacraments. It is an opportunity to choose from a buffet of Truth about our faith as Catholics. In Paul s letter this weekend he tells us Watch carefully how you live try to understand what is the will of the Lord. We hear in Proverbs Come, eat of my food, drink of the wine I have mixed! advance in the way of understanding. Jesus tells the people then and us today that his flesh is TRUE food and his blood is TRUE drink.
