Luke Ferris All that you see here--the days will come when there will not be left a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down. (Luke 21:6) Jesus speaks to us today about what he foresees, the upcoming destruction of the Jewish temple. It seems that this destruction seems inevitable with the growing resistance to the Roman Empire. But the Romans will not let the temple stand as a sign of rebellion to their power. It also seems that many Jewish people of the time believe the destruction of the temple is a sign that the end of the world will happen at the same time. Jesus does not believe this and he doesn t want people of that time or our times to let such talk distract us from a relationship with him. Jesus promises to be with us throughout any difficulties. We have prayed at this parish in Shawano for almost 150 years and God will be present even if any type of destruction comes our way. By your perseverance you will secure your lives. LIFETOUCH PORTRAITS Portrait Dates: November and December 2-3 We need volunteers to cover the downstairs volunteer spots during our last four days of portraits. WE CANNOT DO THIS WITHOUT YOU. We will only need ONE volunteer for each 2.5 hour me slot. 3 Mission Statement of Sacred Heart Parish We, the members of Sacred Heart Parish, through the gifts of the Holy Spirit, are continuing our ministry of Jesus Christ. We are committed to forming ourselves into a caring and active Christian Community, to promote the values of our religion and to fulfill the universal mission of our ministry. The Giving Tree It s that great time of year again when we show our love for one another. The Human Concerns Giving Tree is up in the Gathering Space from November 12- December 4. Again this year, we will be working with family ornaments on the tree. Please pick the ornament(s) of your choice, buy the item on the ornament(s), and return wrapped or in a gift bag with the ornament attached to the outside of the package. In honor of all veterans, the Catholic Order of Foresters will once again be sending holiday care packages to active duty military members. If you have a family member who is on active duty in the Armed Services please send their address to bethmcf@charter.net by November 27 and the Foresters will make sure they receive a care package.

4 Sacred Heart Religious Education Many thanks to Christian, Nathaniel, and Drew Kane, who moved all of the old furniture out of the Youth Center and hauled it away to be donated. These boys put on Christ by giving the gift of themselves to help others. We can be proud of the youth of our parish! November 7 - December 9 Sacred Heart Catholic School and Religious Education are helping to feed the hungry this holiday season. Each week, students will be asked to bring a different food and put it in a box in their classroom. At the end of the week, the food will be collected and stored until Family Night, December 14, when students from Grades 1-4 will sort the food and make boxes for every family served by the Human Concerns Giving Tree. Any extra food will go to St. Vincent de Paul. There is no competition, just the good feeling of helping others! Below is the list of foods to bring: Week of November 7-11: canned meat Week of November 14-18: canned fruits and vegetables Week of November 20-23: peanut butter and jelly Week of November 28-December 2: hot and cold cereals Week of December 5-9: pasta and pasta sauces While the Grade 1-4 students are packing food boxes, all parents and Grade 5-11 students will hear a fact-filled and passionate presentation on Why be Catholic? by Nate Stevens, a member of St. Paul Street Evangelization. You won t want to miss this! All parishioners are invited to donate food as well. There will be a box in the Gathering Space. Please join us for the Family Night presentation, which starts at 6:30pm on December 14. Please place non-perishable donations in the boxes in the Gathering Space. All donations are greatly appreciated, and especially needed this time are: Hamburger Helper, white rice, egg noodles, and elbow macaroni.
