1 November 25, 2018 Vol. 34 No. 46 Lesson 2: Return on Investment If I want to invest my life in things that are truly timeless, where do I begin? Does it make any difference if I bring God an offering or if I give it to Him? If what I do now in this life shows up in Heaven, then how can I store up treasures in Heaven? Does God's word give me any advice on how to spend my money and time?

2 Cleaning Up Our Lives Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. 2 Corinthians 7:1 What happens when you wear a white glove and put your hand into some mud? Does the mud get glovey? Is the white glove able to clean up the mud? Wouldn t it be wonderful if you could clean your dirty clothes just by putting them in the drawer with the clean clothes? Life would be so much simpler if clean could rub off onto dirty. But we know that life doesn t work that way. Clean doesn t rub off; filth does. And it is the same in our spiritual lives. The forgiveness of God makes us clean. But once God cleanses us and we become clean, we must live holy, clean lives after that. We must guard against the filth of sin as it tries to get back into our lives. Are we careful to guard what we watch and hear? Do we monitor the filth that is around us? It is so easy to become desensitized to it all. From dirty jokes to internet pornography, from movies with foul language and inappropriate material to songs which glorify everything the Bible stands against, the filth Your place for weekly news and updates! I hope you enjoyed some good times over the holiday last week! Thank you to Brian Maddox and Steven Stilwell for helping us out last Sunday while Nathan was away. Thanks to all the guys who helped us Tuesday night with the service in the auditorium. I am so grateful to our elders for moving services because it demonstrates two vital things. First, it shows that we know the difference between a command of Scripture and a tradition of men. Wednesday night services are our tradition and it's a good tradition! But there is nothing wrong with changing a tradition. Second, it shows that the elders believe we need to get together in the middle of the week to encourage one another, study together, and refocus ourselves on what God is doing among us. It was a blessing to worship God together Tuesday night. This begins a busy time as we finish up our year's events. Make plans to be here as often as you can and help out with the good works we are doing. It's the most wonderful time of the year, but it can be really stressful, too! Put God first in your schedule and it will be a blessing to you and your church family! -David Salisbury is out there. And too often we decide that because we don t engage in the worst of the filth, we aren t so bad. But when God cleanses our soul, we become white like a freshly laundered shirt. And while we may not take that shirt and roll it in the mud, our call as Christians is to avoid even one spot. Paul says we must perfect holiness. That can only happen when we are careful to guard against every bit of moral filth in our lives. James 1:21 says that the Word of God can help us to get rid of filthy habits. But you will notice that Paul says we must cleanse ourselves. That doesn t mean we save ourselves; it means that we must work at getting out the filth in our lives. It s hard work but God gives us strength for the task. Through His power we can get rid of all our bad habits and live holy lives. May God help us to live holy lives that bring Him the glory! -David 2 Corinthians 5:9 So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him.

Confession that leads to salvation means to publicly confess your faith in Christ as the Son of God. In Romans 10:10, Paul says that we believe with our heart and we confess with our mouth and both are required for salvation. In other words, belief alone is not enough. If I believe with all my heart, but do nothing about it, then I have stopped short of God s plan. I must go public with my faith and tell others I believe in Christ!
