2 Your place for weekly news and updates! A huge "Thank you" to the McIndoo family for hosting our annual Easter Egg hunt yesterday! Even if the weather played havoc with our plans, they did a great job of being flexible and making sure everyone had a good time. Today is a wonderful day to worship the Lord and I'm thankful you are here. As Christians, we worship God each and every week on the first day of the week. As we look ahead to next Sunday, I know we'll have more than our usual number of visitors. It's a great day to invite your friends and family to come and worship with you. But it also seems to be a day when many people forget to come back on Sunday night. Sunday nights are a vital part of the life of our church family. There was a time when our culture respected Sunday nights but now our schedules are crowded even on Sundays. A busy schedule is no excuse for misplaced priorities, however. It may be that if you come back on Sunday night you'll be encouraged and uplifted and glad you came. But it may also be that someone else will be encouraged and uplifted because you came. Either way, your church family is meeting and you'll be missed if you aren't here! -David Salisbury It's Someone's First Time Here Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. Romans 15:7 One of the great lies that churches tell themselves is "We are a friendly church." No congregation wants to believe they are unwelcoming. If we did think that, we would change how we acted! But many times the reason we believe we are a friendly church is because my friends and I get to see each other at church and enjoy some time talking together. But to a first time guest, the church may be confusing and even cold. If everyone else knows what to say and do and when to sit and stand, a guest can feel embarrassed and like an outsider to the church. If that happens, they aren't likely to come back. If a guest has to search for a classroom for the children or has to wander around to find the bathroom or water fountain, they aren't likely to feel comfortable. If services are over and guest observe lots of deep meaningful conversations happening all around them while they only receive brief greetings as someone walks past, they won't feel as if this church family wants them to be a part. That church might tell itself what a friendly church it is, but the experience of guests would tell another story. It's one reason we refer those who worship with us but aren't "regulars" or members as our guests, not as visitors. The word visitor carries with it no obligation on my part. In sporting events the "visitors" are the team that's not from here and they are opposed to the "home" team. But a guest is not just a visitor, they are a person who is invited to visit. We are under a great obligation to see that our guests are treated well and are likely to return. Calling them our guests changes how we view them. It also changes how we view ourselves. We are not the consumers at a church experience. We, as the church, are gracious hosts. Part of our job as the church family is to make sure our guests feel welcome. It is the responsibility of each and every member present to be a good host because any given Sunday could be someone's first Sunday here. Any Sunday could be the time someone is deciding whether to keep trying to make church "work" or give up and quit their faith altogether. In those moments, how we treat our guests can make an eternal difference. What an amazing opportunity as well as an awesome responsibility! Let's be a church that even our guests would call friendly and welcoming! -David 2 Corinthians 5:9 So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him.

Final Four Fun - March 31 HYG Devotional - April 7 Sr. High Spring Retreat - April VBS - May The First Letter to the Corinthians Key Lesson from Class: One lesson that 1 Corinthians 5-6 teaches us is that what we have and who we are is meant for the Lord. Because of the context, Paul specifically uses the illustration of the body in 6:13a to prove this point. It reads, "The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord..." The last part of the chapter (6:19b-20) also reads, "You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body." How often do we allow ourselves to make decisions in this life based on simply what we want to do instead of what the Lord wants us to do? We must change our way of thinking because we are not our own. All that we have and are should be God's. Therefore, let's live like it. Let's make our decisions based on the spiritual and not the physical. Let us always try to glorify God through all we do. 1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.. Genesis - Sunday Morning Class Nathan Woolard Thought from last class: The Bible assures us that 'all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God' (Romans 3:23. All humans are victims of Satan's temptation. But when we find ourselves down, facing adversity, we can take comfort in the fact that God is working for us. We can observe the way the devil operates, and we can avoid his schemes (2 Corinthians 2:11). Adam and Eve were tempted with the same schemes that you and I face today. Knowing those schemes and keeping our perspective will enable us to 'be sober, be vigilant; because [our] adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour' (1 Peter 5:8). - Justin Roger s In the Beginning: Life Lessons from Genesis (Page 29-30) Challenge Question: What was the devil's shell game?

Jesus told His disciples to go into all the world and preach the gospel. Mark s account of the Great Commission summarizes the gospel this way: He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. When Peter preached the first gospel sermon he taught that repentance & baptism went hand in hand. Here, Mark shows us that faith & baptism go together in the same way. Faith is obedient! 6 Today - April 30 - Helen Dennis Scholarship Application - This scholarship is open to graduating seniors from our congregation who will be attending a Church of Christ affiliated college or a student who is currently attending a Church of Christ affiliated college. The applications are in the tract rack. Please review the instructions carefully. An individual may only receive this scholarship once.
