2 Your place for weekly news and updates! We had an amazing Sunday last week! It was great to see several guests here and lots of families had extra people in the pews with them. Our singing was phenomenal, too! Thank you for the way you brought guests, greeted our guests and made last Sunday a great day. Here s what I especially love about it, though. While last Sunday had a slightly larger crowd than usual, it wasn t a special service. We re always that friendly. What happened in worship last Sunday is what happens every Sunday. If you were a visitor here last Sunday, you may have caught us on a good day, but it was still what we aim for every Sunday! Tonight we ll have a singing night with several of our song leaders sharing a favorite hymn with us. Make plans to be here and sing out! You won t want to miss it! Thursday night we got word that John Turpin had passed away after an extended battle with Alzheimers and some mini-strokes. John is finally at peace and we rejoice in the victory of his faith even as we mourn our loss and grieve with his family. Heaven is a brighter place! -David Salisbury Who is this?: For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God? 1 Sa 17:26 For obvious reasons, I love learning about Israel s King David (I try to live up to the name I was given!). When he confronted Goliath, David accurately saw many things. While the rest of the army saw a well armed, well trained, giant warrior, David saw a mere mortal who was trying to defy the Almighty God. David also had an accurate view of himself. The army saw a young boy with no battle skill and no armor. David never once thought he could beat Goliath on his own. Not even if he had the king s own armor! But with the power of God behind him, David knew he was unstoppable. David also looked at the army of soldiers and instinctively knew it was not the army of Israel or the army of Saul. It was part of the army of the living God. It s easy to make the same mistakes in vision that the Israelite army made. It s easy to see our obstacles as insurmountable. But when we see our problems as challenges to our faith, not our planning or logic or skill, then we will have the proper perspective. We may not be able to figure out a solution on our own, but that s not our job. Our job is to be faithful and trust God. It s easy to look at ourselves and ask, What can I do? I m unskilled and inexperienced. But eyes of faith will see that we represent the Almighty God today. What can stop us when we have God s power behind us? And perhaps one of the easiest mistakes to make is to look at the church and see merely a human institution. It is easy to see the failings of individual Christians and decide that the church as a whole is failing. It s easy to get discouraged with news of low attendance or spirituality. We can focus on the negatives about everything from our singing to our Bible classes, but to do so is to forget that the church is the bride of Christ. The church does not belong to an individual or even a group The church belongs to Christ and is through HIS power that she will grow and flourish. Our job is to be faithful in our service to Him and trust Him to give the increase. Let s not use our faith as an excuse for lack of work, but instead lets labor for the Master! 2 Corinthians 5:9 So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him.

There are three main purposes (that we will discuss). Number One: We sing to praise. Our song gives glory to our God and so we ought to sing like we are singing first and foremost for Him. After all, we do believe He deserves the praise don t we? Number Two: We sing to teach. Singing is one of the many ways that we can spread what we believe and how much we believe it. Think about it. You are expressing the words verbally, but you are also expressing your feelings on the matter in the way that you sing (which should challenge us to sing like we believe what we are singing). Number Three: We sing to encourage. Do you realize that how you sing affects the person right beside you, behind you, in front of you, etc? You words and your passion can lift someone up or your lack of emotion High Schoolers, I hope you are excited about the Spring can leave someone down. With these things in mind let us think about why we are singing Retreat because it is almost here! In less than ONE WEEK and then sing with all we have. Becoming a Christian is the first step in a life long journey of faith. When we teach and preach the gospel and someone responds to it, our work is just beginning! As a newborn babe in Christ, Christians need to grow in their faith. Paul reminds us that when we are saved, we pledge our lives to Christ and He begins to work in us to transform us according to his good and perfect will. A faithful life is the mark of a growing Christian.

Visitation - Sunday 2:00-8:00 Funeral Service - Monday 10:00 We will have a bereavement meal for the family on Monday. Prayer List Updates: Frieda Higgs was in Methodist Hospital but is back home. Carol Cummings fell and is recovering at home. Lynn Carter s heart procedure went well. Valace Layman, Donna Moschner s mother, is not well. Bill Gotee, JB Slaughter s brother-in-law, has cancer. Theresa Smith s, Samantha Thompson s mother, surgery was moved to tomorrow. Missy Morris, Jerry & Judy Burrough s friend, is in need of prayers.

6 TODAY- Spring Retreat Meeting - after A.M. services for kids attending the retreat, their parents, and chaperons please meet in the Teen Room for a brief meeting with Nathan. Leadership Meeting for TODAY has been cancelled. Apr Spring Youth Retreat - Senior Youth event at Red River Gorge. Youth Release Forms Parents, please fill out a new form for each child in the youth group and return them to Nathan. We need updated forms from everyone. WKYC Information Sheets Pick up one up from the tract rack to find the dates for each week of camp, what to bring,and other important Apr.30-5th Sunday - Please remember that the entire contribution on a 5th Sunday goes toward our building fund.
