2 Your place for weekly news and updates! As we gather to worship today here in Kentucky, Nathan and Jules and Kate McIndoo are worshiping with God's people in Boquete, Panama. Around the globe, Christians are meeting on the first day of the week. We will worship God in English, Spanish, and virtually every language spoken among men. He will be worshiped in grand and glorious church, open air huts, individual residences and all types of structures in between. We will gather to sing, pray, listen to a message from the Scriptures, observe the Lord's Supper and give as we have been blessed. As individual people, we couldn't be more different - coming from every background you can imagine. And yet, one thing unites us - we are saved by the same sacrifice made by the same God. We are one in Spirit because of that. I'm so thankful that a small mission team from here is working to have an influence in Panama. I'm thankful for missionaries who work all over the world. And I'm thankful for a God who is so much bigger than all our individual differences that He can pull us together into one family that isn't limited by geography or time. To Him alone be the glory! -David Salisbury Word Fights Remind them of these things, charging them before the Lord not to strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers. 2 Timothy 2:14 Many years ago, Jacob Ditzler and J.S. Sweeney were in the middle of a debate concerning the scriptural mode of baptism. Ditzler was arguing that sprinkling was acceptable and Sweeney taught that immersion was the only biblical method of baptizing. In an effort to support his view, Ditzler proved that while baptism usually meant immersion, a secondary definition of the word was "to sprinkle." In turn, Sweeney showed that an alternate definition of the word "believe" was "to hold an opinion." He further showed that to be "saved" could mean to be "preserved." One definition of "preserve" was "to pickle." He then read Mark 16:16, "He that believes and is baptized shall be saved." Then he re-read it with his new secondary definitions. "He that has an opinion and is baptized shall be pickled." Mr. Sweeney was not trying to be sarcastic, merely to raise an important point. Are we out to see what we can make the Scriptures mean or to learn what God has clearly said? It is easy enough to get caught up in secondary meanings and twisted logic, but it won't lead us to the plain and simple truth of the gospel. We can twist verses and search out alternate definitions to prove any point we want to make. Or we can let the Bible speak for itself in clear and easy terms. Too often our Bible study has been to justify positions we already hold. We should always approach the Scriptures with an open mind and a desire to see what God's word has to say about the subject at hand. Paul warned Timothy to avoid fighting about words when such fights have "no profit" and end up harming those who participate in them. In 1 Timothy 6, he recommends that we focus on godliness more than on making sure our personal definition of a specific word is used. May we never be guilty of bringing our own agendas to our Bible study and may we never try to make the Scriptures fit what we already believe on a subject. Instead, may we be good and serious students of the Word of God and always conform our personal beliefs and practices to God's truth as revealed in the Bible. May that book be our guide as we seek to live more godly every day! -David 2 Corinthians 5:9 So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him.

3 The next Summer Devo will be June the Wilkersons. Bible Image of the week Questions or Suggestions? Nathan Woolard - Youth and Family Minister nathan@hcofc.com or (919) THE MISSION FIELD Also, SYS is at Walnut Grove on Tuesday. Those going will leave at 4:45 and get back around 11:00. Panama Mission Trip - June 1-9 Summer Youth Series - June 5 HYG Summer Devo - June 10 Enlighten Youth Rally - Aug 3-4 When we think of the mission field we think of going to places like Panama (where a group of us are now), or we think of going over seas to various third world countries and so on and so forth. We don't often think of our own town or our own neighborhood. We don't often think of going door to door here, or sitting and talking to people at the restaurant on Sunday afternoon, or talking to coworkers at the workplace. But, guess what!? Our area is just as much of a mission field as countries over seas, and we are in need of missionaries to work in this mission field. Matthew 9:37-38 reads, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest." You see, all around us there are people in need of the Gospel of Christ. There are people who need salvation! You can be (and should be) the missionary that brings the good news to them! If you don't, then who will? You have the ability to influence those around you and teach them of Jesus, so why do we often wait? Why do we often hope that someone else will step in and talk with them? Why don't we step up and share with them the most important message ever? I hope that we will all be more like Isaiah in Isaiah 6:8, which reads, "And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then I said, Here am I! Send me.'" Be sure to sign up for the remind groups below that apply to your family and text your name to (919) Boquete Please be praying for the Panama Mission Trip efforts! Jules, Kate and I are currently in Boquete and look forward to updating you all when we get back.

Without faith it is impossible to please God. But to look to God as some sort of wishing star that might just possibly give me what I want is to fail to understand Him. All the obedience in the world is worthless without faith. The best I can offer God is still imperfect and the only hope I have is to trust in His grace and mercy. God desires that we trust Him first. Until we come to faith in God, nothing else matters.
