You can listen to them there or download them and listen to them anywhere! It was a special joy for me to get to share Dr. Dennis Loyd with you last Wednesday night. He and his wife have been good friends to us for 20 years. This week we welcome Stephen Rogers to our summer series. He has a long and wonderful friendship with our church family and we're glad he'll be here. We're also glad to welcome Nathan back (again). He's been away at camp all week with some of our teens and teens from all around the area. I'm so thankful Nathan is willing to go and work hard with our kids especially when it means getting in late on Saturday and having to turn right around and be ready for Sunday with all of us. He is a hard worker and we are blessed to have him as part of our ministry team here. We'll work to get him an extra nap or two this week to catch up. I leave for a week of camp with our 8-10 year olds in July. It's a busy summer for us but God is doing great things in so many areas of our church family. Now this I do for the gospel s sake, that I may be partaker of it with you. 1 Cor. 9:22-23 Midweek Bible classes have been an important part of this congregation's fellowship and teaching ministry almost since it began meeting in brother Springer's home in As important as they are in the history of this congregation, they are a modern addition to the practices of the early church. For centuries after the church began, congregations met one time on Sunday. The first century church met at sunrise Sunday morning or at sunset of the first day of the week because Sunday was a work day in the Roman empire. But as times and culture changed, many Christians had more freedom to meet. The church had always met for times of fellowship and even to study whenever a group could get together. But with greater freedom, more planned corporate services were started. In the early 1800's, a great awakening took place in the West and part of that religious fervor led to mid-week "prayer services." These became what is now our Wednesday night services. It was never commanded in Scripture that the church should meet in the middle of the week, but it is certainly in keeping with the spirit of the early church who enjoyed that fellowship and study at every opportunity. And it has become a vital and important part of the work and ministry of the church. Because it is so important, the elders want every member to come to the midweek services that is physically able to do so. The elders have decided to move our midweek services for the week of July 4 to Tuesday night. They did this to allow more of you to be here without conflicting with holiday or vacation plans. In so doing, the elders are again emphasizing that midweek Bible class is important and they are willing to do anything they need to do to make this opportunity as convenient as possible for you. There is a tendency when anything is changed to think that the new time means it "doesn't count." Certainly, you can see it is quite the opposite. I hope you'll be at ALL our midweek Bible classes. I know it will be a blessing to you and your family. Today busy schedules often conflict with Wednesday night classes. But if the Lord is the most important person in our life and our relationship with Him is our highest priority, that should show up in how we schedule our time. I challenge you to put the Lord first in your time and be here every time the doors are open! -David 2 Corinthians 5:9 So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him.

There are events for the elements as well as the youth group. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. We learn a few things in these verses. 1) Jesus is our authority. If we are not following Him, then we are not following the right person. There are no excuses. If it's not by the authorization of Jesus, then we are wrong. 2) We are supposed to GO and make disciples. This means that we (all of us) have a job of GOING and spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ (cf. 2 Cor. 5:18-21; Romans 10:14-17). We must all evangelize and teach Christianity to those around us. We are to help people see how to be saved and then we are to help them to understand how to live from that point forward. 3) We also learn that we, ourselves, are supposed to be observing all that He has commanded us as well. This means that we not only become Christians and make Christians, but we also live as Christians ought to live. We must be willing to talk the talk and walk the walk. This means that if we are just filling a seat in the pew and not living our whole lives for Jesus then we are not as we should be. Don't forget that God does not want us to be lukewarm, but instead "all-in" for Him (Rev. 3:16). Be sure to sign up for the remind groups below that apply to your family and text your name to (919) Attention ALL Youth: Now that several of you have "graduated" into the youth group or the senior high group, please make sure you are a part of the correct remind groups. Remind is used a lot, so be sure to sign up for any of the reminders that apply to you. If you don't then you will not know what is going on. At baptism, we ask a person to make what Paul calls the good confession (1 Timothy 6). When Peter confesses You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God in Matthew 16, Jesus tells him that this understanding the foundation of the church. In Matthew 10, Jesus promises that if we will confess His name before men, He will confess ours before God. If we want Christ to be our king, we must make that decision public. "LIVE IN HARMONY WITH ONE ANOTHER" Stephen Rogers has been the pulpit minister for the Washington Avenue Church of Christ in Evansville since He is no stranger to this congregation and we have enjoyed a close friendship with him and our brethren across the river for many years. Stephen may preach in Indiana, but he is a son of the Bluegrass State. He was born in Stanton, KY before he attended both Freed-Hardeman and Lipscomb Colleges. He is married to Vicky and they have two children and four grandchildren.
