2 Jesus Is Our Nature Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. 1 John 4:17 Jean Rabin was born in Haiti in Four years later his father purchased land in Philadelphia but moved his family to France. In France, Jean was given the French name Jean- Jacques Fougere Audubon. In 1803 the family emigrated to America, and Jean changed his name to the anglicized form John James Audubon. After marrying a Philadelphia girl, he came to live in a newly incorporated town Henderson, Kentucky in In 1873 William Christopher Handy was born in Florence, Alabama. In 1896 he married his true love, Elizabeth Price, whom he had met while performing at a barbecue in her hometown of Henderson, Kentucky. His musical career took off and he became known as the Father of the Blues. While Handy never wrote any songs during his time in Henderson, he always remembered that it was here he first saw that he could make a career out of his music. These two famous men discovered the truth about their nature while in Henderson. Our town has been home to many other individuals who have contributed significantly to our history and culture after learning about themselves while here. Discovering our "nature" is a vital part of selfawareness and Henderson has always been a place where that could happen for anyone, even if they only lived here a short time. At this time of year when we stop to appreciate friends and family, I want to say a special thank you to all of you who make this church a place you can call home with people who feel like family. Heather and the kids and I are blessed to be in Henderson, Kentucky and to get to work with the church here. Thank you to Nathan for being a partner in this work. Whatever I may be able to teach you about ministry cannot compare with all that I have learned from you. Thank you, Terri, for all the times you pitch in on whatever crazy idea we may have come up with that day. You help us do the impossible on a regular basis, and you remind us to think ahead so that next time it will be a little more possible and a lot less stressful! We couldn't do half of what we do without your help. I am so grateful to the elders who are my brothers in Christ, my friends in ministry, and some of the greatest shepherds I have had the privilege of knowing. Our deacons are amazing workers, and I am blessed to be surrounded by such men who are great examples of faith and service. I look forward to our future together! -David Salisbury In the coming year, our goal as a congregation will be to learn how Jesus is our nature. It is in the spiritual DNA of every Christian to become more and more like Jesus. It is, in the words of the apostle John, "...as He is, so are we in this world." So we will spend our time looking at Jesus and learning more about who we are to be as His people. I hope you're ready to grow spiritually this year -- to stretch and challenge yourself and look more deeply at your own faith and spiritual life. As we learn more about our Savior and about ourselves, we'll become more like Him. We hope that the love of God will be perfected among us, even as it was among the early Christians. And that as we grow in our understanding of God's love for us, we'll also be more able to share that love with our community. Pick up the January edition of King's Copy and get ready to embark on a journey of Scripture writing for 2019 that will help us all to get more familiar with the words of God that are directed to the people of God. As you take 10 minutes a day to write out a passage of Scripture and think about it, we'll all discover that Jesus really is our nature! -David 2 Corinthians 5:9 So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him.

On January 6th, Nathan will be teaching the auditorium Bible class to introduce a new Youth and Family Ministry model. We would like for everyone who can make it to attend this class (especially those who have children or look after any age youth). Adult classes as well as classes from 4th grade to 12th grade will meet in the auditorium to allow those in these classes the chance to hear about the new model. Merry Christmas (in TWO DAYS!) I hope that each of you are able to spend time with family (both church and biological) and friends and get plenty of Christmas goodies. I also hope (like always) that you will remember our Lord during this season. Many will be more willing to hear about who Christ is and what He has done for us during this time of year and it is up to us to spread the good news! I also want to thank each one of you for all that you have done for Jules and me, as well as the youth, since we have been here in Henderson. The Lord's church is truly a blessing! Becoming a Christian is the first step in a life long journey of faith. When we teach and preach the gospel and someone responds to it, our work is just beginning! As a newborn babe in Christ, Christians need to grow in their faith. Paul reminds us that when we are saved, we pledge our lives to Christ and He begins to work in us to transform us according to his good and perfect will. A faithful life is the mark of a growing Christian.
