2 Your place for weekly news and updates! We are excited to welcome back our Panama mission team! Nathan and Julianna Woolard and Kate McIndoo spent last week in Boquete, Panama on a mission trip with other Christians from around the country. We look forward to hearing from them about the work they did and we give glory to God for this great opportunity. I know this trip will help us plan future mission trips as well. It's summer time and our schedules fill up fast! As you travel or participate in community activities, remember to bring your faith with you! Make sure to worship with God's people where ever you are. Let your faith inform your words and deeds even on vacation! And don't forget that the work of the church continues each week and depends on your support! Get someone to cover any job you are down to do and remember to give even for the weeks you are away. Last week we started a sermon series on marriage and your response has been great. All the lessons will be available online at our website if you would like to listen to them again or catch up if you miss one. I pray God will use these lessons to be a blessing! -David Salisbury An Anchor of Hope We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. Hebrews 6:19 The world was rocked this week by the deaths of two celebrities which were both ruled suicides. Then came the news from the CDC that the suicide rate in America has risen 25% since Those rates have increased in every demographic but especially among women and elementary school aged children. Netflix just started season 2 of their hit show "13 Reasons Why" which is all about teen suicide. While season 1 was criticized by some as glorifying suicide, there is no doubt this topic is popular. The book that is the source material for the show was also a best seller in the young adult market. While many different factors contribute to suicides, there is almost always a feeling of hopelessness and helplessness. What can we do, as a community of God's people, to reach out to a world that is literally dying because of a lack of hope? I'm no counselor, but I think Christian hope offers something unique. The world uses hope to mean, "I wish this would happen but it probably won't." The Bible uses the word to mean a confident expectation that God will do what He's promised. If hope is nothing more than a glorified wish, then we are right to be as anxious as we are. If my future is uncertain, then I should work as hard as I can and worry about everything. But if my future is anchored in the solemn promise of an all powerful God who cannot lie, then I can serve God and my fellow man and trust the Lord with everything else. Christian hope means this life really does matter and I should do all I can to serve God as best I can. Every day I'm given on earth is an opportunity, not a burden. If God is in control, then I have a purpose for each day I'm here. But if God is all powerful, then I have a great helper in the work I am called to do. If God gives me a purpose and the ability to carry it out, then I can't be hopeless and helpless. I can look forward to the glorious life He's promised and see the value in each moment I'm given here. That kind of hope is an anchor for my soul that will hold me fast through the toughest storms. What a blessing! That is definitely good news worth sharing with a world that is desperate for good, hopeful news! -David 2 Corinthians 5:9 So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him.

There are 1,000,000 people that want to tell you what they think is best for you - what you need to buy, what you need to wear, what you need to believe, etc. Wouldn't life be a whole lot better if it came with a map that we could trust? Jesus tells a group of religious elites that the only way they can be saved is to repent of their sins. He wasn t picking on them, He just wanted them to understand that no one is good enough to be right with God on their own merits. When we come to know God s will and we see where we have fallen short of it, we must change our life accordingly. Repentance is bringing my life in line with God s will for how His people should live.
