1 May 20, 2018 Vol. 34 No. 20 TODAY-Wed. 6:00-8:00 P.M. God makes seemingly impossible situations possible. Join us as we explore this truth by becoming part of God s story at VBS. We will be learning about Jericho, Daniel and the Lion s Den, David and Goliath, and Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.
2 Your place for weekly news and updates! It's Vacation Bible School kickoff day! We've been looking forward to this day for some time now and it's finally here! I want to say a huge "Thank you" to all of you who have helped with getting us to this point. The church building has been humming with activity for the last few weeks as people come in and work on different parts of VBS. We've had several folks who can't be here each night who have worked ahead of time to put in blood, sweat, and tears to make everything look just right. I want to make one special plea as we get started: Would you pray for our Vacation Bible School every night? As much as I am in awe of all the work so many people have put in on this effort, it will never equal what God can do in answer to our prayers. If we ask God to open doors of opportunity for us and work in all the work we are doing, who knows what great things might result? So please pray for God's blessings on our efforts. Pray for our teachers and workers, pray for the skit actors and everyone who is helping, and pray for the children who will be here. Then come on down and help out each night and you'll have a front row seat to see how God answers those prayers! -David Salisbury Joseph Meister Lived Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit... Matthew 28:19 If you enjoy a glass of cold milk or put milk on your cereal, then you can thank Louis Pasteur. Today he is perhaps best known for inventing the process of pasteurizing milk which kills most of the disease carrying microbes in milk and prevents it from souring as quickly. But in his day, Louis Pasteur was known as a scientist and he also developed many vaccines for diseases. One disease that killed thousands of people a year in his day was rabies. Pasteur worked for years to find a cure for the disease. One day, just as he was about to begin testing on himself (the accepted method of testing in that time), a nine year old boy named Joseph Meister was bitten by a rabid dog. The boy's mother begged Pasteur to test the drug on her son and so he injected the boy for ten days -- and the boy lived! Decades later with literally scores of great accomplishments to his name, of all the things Pasteur could have written on his tombstone, he asked for these three words: JOSEPH MEISTER LIVED. It's so easy to get our priorities turned around. There are so many things in life that demand our time and attention, and it's so easy to focus on them. But we must remember that one day it won't matter how much money we made or how popular we were. It won't matter what our IQ or GPA was or if we were good looking or not. One day nothing will matter at all except where we spend eternity and how many people we have shared the gospel with. How many souls will enjoy eternal life with God the Father because of your influence? Are you spending your time, talent, and treasure on things that really matter like pointing people toward Jesus as the Savior? Is your top goal to help people know the truth and get to heaven or just to have fun and make more money? May God help us to always be found doing those things that matter most. May we always seek to glorify Him in all we do and say in every moment of every day. As we kick off VBS today, let's remember that we are investing in the eternal future of these children and that is the most important thing we can do! -David 2 Corinthians 5:9 So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him.
3 VBS IS TONIGHT! Be sure to be at VBS tonight starting at 6:00 and bring a friend! We will be finishing each night at 8:00. IT'S GOING TO BE RIDICULOUSLY FUN SO DON'T MISS IT! Before a person can put their faith in Christ, they must believe in Him. Before they can believe in Christ, they must know about Him. That s why Paul says faith comes by hearing. The first step in coming to salvation is to hear the Gospel. Our source for the Gospel is the Word of God. The Scriptures teach us about Christ and tell us exactly how God loved the world so much that He sent Jesus to die for our sins.
