Schuh, I. Johanson Ethan FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT Paul, in the letter to the Ephesians, brings us back to joy and gives us reason to rejoice. God is rich in mercy. Because of our Creator s great love for us, God brought us to life with Christ when we were dead in sin. We were dead dead in sin, dead with insensitivity and injustice, dead in wars and famine, dead in hate and now we have been brought to life again in Christ Jesus, who is the ultimate kindness of our God. We have been saved by a favor, a grace, a mercy beyond telling or understanding. God s great gift of salvation is offered as gift. We have reason to rejoice. We are reminded that we are truly God s handiwork, God s work of art, a work of masterful creativity. As God s handiwork, all of us are created in Christ to lead the life of good deeds which God prepared for us in advance. We are brought to life in Christ, no longer dead in sin. Truly a reason to rejoice! As receivers of God s free gift of salvation through faith, it is now time to get on with the good deeds, being useful, working to bring about the reign of God. Jesus tells Nicodemus and us that this is the time for decision. Are we going to live according to the light that came into the world or stay in the darkness and shadows of being noncommittal? Can we look with open eyes at the reality of our personal sin and the evil of the world around us? Can we challenge evil and darkness we see around us rather than being complacent and passive? We can do this, for we are God s handiwork created to rejoice in Christ Jesus and to lead the life of good deeds. At this halfway point in Lent, we pray for the grace to see more clearly, understand more deeply, and live more joyfully and faithfully in the light. Together, we come before God, hands outstretched, asking to have our hungers satisfied, our yearnings fulfilled. We ask God to give us what we need to be a true reflection of divine handiwork. 4 Olive Wood Carvings Olive wood carvings will be available to purchase after all masses March 10/11. The proceeds are to support Christian Catholic families in the Holy Land since it is the major source of income for them. More than 75 families in Bethlehem hand carve these items.they are very beautiful and unique items such as Nativities, Crucifixes, Rosaries, and Statues. The Christian population has dropped from 22% to less than 2% in the past two decades, and this is a way to support them so they can stay there. The program will run at all weekend Masses during Lent, finishing the weekend prior to Easter. We are continuing to encourage cash donations where possible rather than food, although we will continue to accept food donations as we have in the past. Similar to last year, one of our Knights has agreed to a 20% match on all cash donations. The Knights of Columbus will also match an additional $100 for every $500 collected, up to a maximum match of $500. Knights will be at each door accepting donations after each Mass and food collection boxes will be in each entryway. We thank you for your generosity in support of the needy in our community. This Collection helps six Catholic Agencies to provide relief and support to struggling communities and to work toward peace and reconciliation among our marginalized brothers and sisters here and around the world. Learn more at Learn how to change your life each day by being the child of God you are called to be On Sunday, March 25 at 9:15 am in the Fireside Room, Masters of Theology student and fellow parishioner Paul Ditter will be giving a talk about who we are and the greatness with which God looks at us as his own sons and daughters in the family of the Church. Find out what our calling is and many ideas for how we can live out our calling each day, turning simple events in our life into opportunities to grow and experience the Kingdom of God in our midst. God is reaching out to us each day, learn how our faith and a little knowledge of his way and will can change our life. THE MOVIE GOSNELL, A PROLIFE STORY. Candy & I viewed the Sneak Peek screening of the movie GOSNELL. It was a 5 star movie with excellent acting and a moving story about a Chicago Doctor who performed live births and then took their lives, also saving many of the Bodies and Feet in his office. The movie was made in a very tasteful manner, no visual gruesomeness, as the producers insisted that s how it must be produced. As you know, Oregon is one of the only states that allow abortions until the birth of the baby. A true story told with compelling passion to stop this man by 2 committed people, a Law Enforcement officer and a Pro Choice DA in Chicago. Yes, it is also happening around the world. The Pro Choice DA has since became a ProLife advocate. This event is co-sponsored by Students for Life of America and Human Life of Washington. A 5 star movie, a must see when it is released to the public. This movie has been produced and is being shown as Sneak Peek Screening. The project is now ready for national showing but no major studio will underwrite the movie at the present time. If you are able to help support the national release, it will take an addition amount of money by private prolife supporters. 6 RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AND YOUTH MINISTRY PRAYER FOR LENT A TIME OF GRACE HOLY WEEK FAIR FOR CHILDREN Come join us on Sunday, March 25 at 9:15 AM for a gathering to celebrate Palm Sunday and learn about the events of Holy Week. Children in Kindergarten through 5th grade are invited to attend. We will meet in Room 116 of the Parish Hall. Stay with me, Lord. because I am weak and I need your strength. Middle and High school kids are welcome to volunteer as helpers to lead groups of children through the Stations of the Cross in the Hallway and help them with a group craft project.
