There is the commonly held idea that a king or queen should be person with power and riches. But this is not the kind of royalty proper to Jesus and Mary. Let us think of the Lord: The Lordship and Kingship of Christ is interwoven with humility, service and love: it is, above all else, to serve, to assist, to love...the kingship of Jesus has nothing to do with that which belongs to the powerful of the earth. He is a king who serves his servants; he showed this throughout his life. And the same is true for Mary. She is queen in God's service to humanity. She is the queen of love, who lives out her gift of self to God in order to enter into His plan of salvation for man. queenship-blessed-virgin-mary This feast is celebrated on the octave day of the Assumption. Book selections for each year correspond to the themes of a woman s life. So far, we have journeyed through the themes of daughter, mother, spouse, friend, worker, and pilgrim. This year we are excited to dive into the theme of contemplative with the help of some excellent authors such as Caryll Houselander, Thomas Merton, and Annie Dillard, among others. St. Mary s annual Block Party will be held on Saturday, September 8, beginning with an outdoor Mass at 4:00 pm in the church parking lot at 25 8 th Avenue South in downtown St. Cloud and ending with the Grand Raffle at 10:00 pm. Some other features of the Block Party include delicious food, kid s games and a silent auction. Jazz.Combo takes the stage at 5:45 pm and Justin Ploof and the Throwbacks at 6:00 pm. All are invited. BE is a program designed to facilitate the grief resolution process for adults thereby enabling them to again love themselves, others, and God. Those who attend the program should be beyond the initial feelings of anger and despair.
