Important! Is it wrong to go to every Justice of Peace wedding? NO, it is not. It is only in question if one or both of them were Catholic. Other faiths and people who are not practicing their faith or do not consider themselves Catholic anymore are not bound canonically to these requirements: A wedding in a Church, sacramental in nature, and witnessed by a Catholic Priest or Deacon, and in a liturgical setting. Some say, I won t get an annulment because that would mean my children are illegitimate or did not exist. This is not correct thinking. In no way does this effect your children. They do exist. They were conceived in cooperation with God and Love. The annulment means that the Marriage did not have all the qualities of a full consented sacramental Marriage. I could not afford an annulment, so we decided to at least commit ourselves civilly rather than just living together. Pope Francis asked the church not to have a set fee because of this reason. Our Diocese. I believe does not charge anymore but will take a donation if offered. Can I receive Communion as a Catholic, if I got a justice of the Peace marriage.? No, you should instead continue coming to church to be in community and only receive a blessing, go to confession, begin working on the annulment or the preparation for a sacramental marriage and then when you are in right relationship with the Catholic church, then you can receive the Body and Blood again. Can the Church forbid you Not to go to this kind of ceremony? No, Attending a ceremony and a reception are two different things. Natural Law dictates that we should do good and avoid evil. One has to have an informed conscience and reflect on all the consequences and often wrestle with these questions with the spiritual help of their Pastor. But if you are one of the 5 ( two spouses, two witnesses and pastor) which are necessary or required to sign your names. No practicing Catholic can be part of the group of five or this is cooperating with a sinful act and could be scandalous to the family or community. Prayer and Discernment is a must! The Israelites grumblings always make me chuckle. In spite of all the mighty deeds the Lord does for them, their trust remains skittish and they frequently cave into fearful complaints.

2 New Evangelization Corner Dear Friends, In today s first reading, the Israelites hurl some pretty heated complaints toward Moses and Aaron. Just like a toddler that can t have her way, the Israelites complaints amp up into an all-out tantrum: you had to lead us into this desert to make the whole community die of famine! The Israelites grumblings always make me chuckle. In spite of all the mighty deeds the Lord does for them, their trust remains skittish and they frequently cave into fearful complaints. They are so fickle, so forgetful of the Lord s faithfulness, so rebellious, so dramatic, and so slow to trust the Lord. The Israelites are ridiculously human, and they are a lot like me! I, too, forget the Lord s faithfulness. I, too, give in to fear and act like a drama queen. I, too, need to remember with thanksgiving all that the Lord has done for me. Brothers and Sisters, if you also find yourself succumbing to fear and wondering where God is in your life, go to Mass! The Mass is the easiest way to remember with holy thanksgiving all that the Lord has done for you. This is because the Eucharist is a sacrifice of thanksgiving and a memorial of Christ's Passover. In Scripture, a memorial does not merely recall a past event; it makes that event present. Simply put, the Mass makes present the sacrifice of the cross. If you re struggling to count your blessings, if you feel like your personal life is falling apart, if God feels far away, then go to Mass and hear Jesus words of love to you: this is my body, given for you. Remember that He died and rose for you. Receive His body, drink His blood and remember His desire to be in communion with you. May the Eucharist, our Bread of Life, help us to remember with Thanksgiving all that the Lord has done for us. This event will take place rain or shine, and supports the Rural Life Fund to help those in need in our rural communities throughout the diocese. All are welcome!
