New Evangelization Corner Dear Friends, In today s first reading we hear about the call of Samuel.

Samuel doesn t wake from his sleep simply because he hears a loud a voice, but because he hears his name called. Nothing is more personal than a name.

We also know how awkward it feels to forget somebody s name and how disappointing it is when somebody we admire forgets our name. Our name is personal. Our name is a part of who we are.

2 New Evangelization Corner Dear Friends, In today s first reading we hear about the call of Samuel. While Samuel s generous response to the Lord is one we ought to emulate in our life of Christian discipleship, today I d like to focus specifically on Samuel s call. Samuel doesn t wake from his sleep simply because he hears a loud a voice, but because he hears his name called. Nothing is more personal than a name. We experience this reality every time we hear our name called in a crowd. We also know how awkward it feels to forget somebody s name and how disappointing it is when somebody we admire forgets our name. Our name is personal. Our name is a part of who we are. Our name matters. Eucaristic Adoration Every Monday 8:00 a.m. 10:00 p.m. Every Saturday St. Stanislaus Kostka 6:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Daily Mass Eucharistic Adoration is also held for one hour following daily Mass on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. No Adoration if there is a funeral on that day. Join in the Rosary 1/2 hour before all Masses! God calls Samuel by name for a specific mission and purpose. Even though the young boy was not yet familiar with the Lord, the Lord was very familiar with Samuel and He was calling Samuel to play an important role in salvation history. God didn t call any volunteer with a pulse, God called Samuel. God had a mission only Samuel could fulfill, and through Samuel s obedience to God s will, he became a great judge and prophet in Israel who accomplished many things. God calls each one of us by name as well. He doesn t hang up help wanted signs for impersonal duties in service to Him. God knows each of us by name and has a specific plan and purpose that only we can fulfill. We are first called to be in a relationship with God; to receive His blessing as His son or daughter. Just as Samuel was consecrated to God, we, too, through our baptism, are consecrated to God. Our mission comes from this identity. Once we receive the Father s blessing, He will call us forward to help others grow in their relationship with Him.
