New Evangelization Corner Dear Friends, Last Tuesday I attended my little sister s confirmation at my home parish in Rockville and the familiar sights, sounds and smells of the church made it easy

Brothers and sisters, it s important to remember our confirmation! Not just for the sake of taking a nostalgic stroll down memory lane, but so we can remember that we are confirmed.

Paragraph 1302 of the Catechism explains that the effect of the sacrament of Confirmation is the special outpouring of the Holy Spirit as once granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost.

2 New Evangelization Corner Dear Friends, Last Tuesday I attended my little sister s confirmation at my home parish in Rockville and the familiar sights, sounds and smells of the church made it easy for me to think back on the day I was confirmed. I remember my confirmation being an important moment in my spiritual life that I sadly don t recall often enough. Brothers and sisters, it s important to remember our confirmation! Not just for the sake of taking a nostalgic stroll down memory lane, but so we can remember that we are confirmed. And we need to hold firm to this reality because Christ is depending on us to boldly preach the Gospel. Paragraph 1302 of the Catechism explains that the effect of the sacrament of Confirmation is the special outpouring of the Holy Spirit as once granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost. Stop and think about that for a moment: the same Holy Spirit given to the apostles on the day of Pentecost been given to you! Let me remind you that it is the same Spirit. Not a toned down version of the Holy Spirit, but the same Holy Spirit. The many signs and wonders recounted in the Acts of the Apostles are meant to continue through you! The Catechism further breaks down the Pentecost effects of the sacrament of Confirmation: - we are rooted more deeply in the love of God the Father - we are united more firmly to Christ - the gifts of the Holy Spirit are increased in us - our love for the church is strengthened we are given a special strength of the Holy Spirit to spread and defend the faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ, to confess the name of Christ boldly, and never to be ashamed of the Cross. What would our church look like if we manifested these effects of confirmation? What would your life look like if you tapped into the special graces of your confirmation? This week, let s pray for the graces of our confirmation to be stirred in our hearts. All choir members are welcome and encouraged to participate in singing for Confirmation which will be on Tuesday, April 17.
