Saturday evening Mass earlier to serve young families. Encouraging Mass attendance. Volunteers for cleaning Goals: Evangelization-How do we bring people back to the Church? Increase Lay involvement Replace church basement carpet and buy a new vacuum. Strengths: Good music participation-singing Church picnic Strong Faith Formation program. Male teachers are good male role models Church structure is sound, inviting and well maintained Welcoming ice cream socials All Saints Challenges: Making a decision on the future of our church Funeral lunch groups/leaders Need of Sacristans Lack of unity Structure of our buildings Goals: Continue Adoration. Extend to one day a month of 24 hr. Adoration. Challenges: Uncertainty of always being re-clustered Same people to do work and events Outreach to college and the Elderly Sacristy security What to do with the parish rectory house Goals: Secure/update Sacristy Decide what to do with the Rectory Cemetery upkeep Increase our use of FORMED Have more parishioners on the Adoration list Strengths: We are adaptable Masses are full and with lots of Kids Knights of Columbus doing the Rosary Kids Masses once a month Adoration every Saturday Lot of people doing ministry Hospitality Commit to a plan for our parish building. 2 New Evangelization Corner Dear Friends, There s a pesky, sneaky little word we often use in our relationship with God. We usually use this word to feel more secure, but the trouble is, every time we use it, progress in our spiritual life comes to a screeching halt. Do you want to know what this word is? It s the word enough. Our fallen nature tempts us to be stingy with God. We like to be in control, we like to be comfortable and we re terrible at trusting God, so we feel justified when we defensively tell God we've given enough, done enough or served enough. We were created for communion with God. But this only happens if we give Him everything. The saints gave God everything. We, on the other hand, usually cower back in fear. Giving God everything feels risky. Giving a little, feels safe. If we're brutally honest though, we have to admit that we're usually stingy with God because we fear He will be stingy with us. For example, if we give God our finances, we worry we won't have enough money. If we give God more time in prayer, we fear won't have enough time get everything done. If we give God our lives, we wonder if He will be enough to make us happy. The widow in today s Gospel was praised for giving God all that she had. It wasn t much, but it was everything. Jesus calls us to emulate the widow, but how do we practically grow in trust and generosity? The answer is simple: go to Mass. The Eucharist is proof that God isn t stingy. God gives us everything, His entire self. Next time you re tempted to withhold from God in fear, remember the way Jesus entrusts himself to you in the Eucharist. Remember that He lies vulnerable in the palm of your hand, so you can feel safe and secure as you lie in His. 3 Gifts for Joy is a free service offered to area families in need that enables them to provide Christmas gifts for their children who are 18 years or younger. Families will be given individualized merchandise gift certificates from local business owners. Please keep them in prayer: God of Mercy, You sent Jesus Your Son among us as our Prince of Peace. His love overcomes the barriers of fear and violence, and conquers the power of death. As our world continues to struggle with conflict and war, we thank you for all veterans of military service. Bless these men and women for the sacrifices they have made to protect the lives and freedoms of others. Bring those who have died to the peace of Your Kingdom, and provide for the needs of body and spirit for those still among us in this life. Watch over those in military service today, and all those affected by war and unrest. May Your Spirit bring unity and harmony to all Your children, made one through Christ our Lord. 4 Parish News & Events Church Cleaning will be on Thursday, November 15th from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Men and women are asked to spend an hour or so anytime during the day to complete the cleaning tasks as listed in the entryway. This study called Forgiven: The Transforming Power of Confession, will explore the grace and healing offered in Confession and show how this sacrament of mercy reveals the depth and bounty of God s love. The Forgiven study will be offered on Tuesdays at 10:15 a.m. and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m in the basement of All Saints - St. Mary s.
