P.O. Box 308, Holdingford, MN Listening for the Call: Marriage, Priesthood, and Religious Life When you spend quiet time in prayer, what call do you feel in your heart? Have other people told you that you d make a good priest or sister? Do you have a desire to help other people draw closer to Jesus? Catholic Vocations in the U.S. The estimated 68 million Catholics in America make up less than 6 percent of the 1.2 billion Catholics in the world. Nonetheless, we have the fourth largest Catholic population of any country. Annually, more that 500 men are ordained to the priesthood in the U.S., a number which is rising slightly. The are about 154, 000 Catholic weddings each year, though that figure is dropping. There are currently about 48,000 religious sisters, but the average age is 75. In 2015, infants and children were baptized. We are far behind the vocation booms in India, Poland, and Africa. But doing better than Europe and Canada. There is an increase in various Catholic youth movements to encourage a Culture of Discernment. Here are some ways to create a culture of discernment in your own home: 1. Read a story about many of the fascinating saints who were priests or religious. 2. Watch a movie such as A Mission to Love about the life of St. John Bosco or many others available. 3. Set the record straight about dating and sexuality for your teens. 4. Encourage play. Children love to dress up and can be a priest, brother or sister. 5. Pray from the heart. Let your children hear you praying for their future. 6. Talk about vocations openly discussing marriage, priesthood or religious life. 7. Befriend priests and religious. ~vianneyvocations.com Many stories, movies and inspirational talks are available on FORMED. This is a FREE app available to us as parishioners and a great place to find ways to grow in your faith individually and as a family. Go to GIFT Night or visit to sign up.
2 New Evangelization Corner Dear Friends, Thanksgiving Day is right around the corner, but for Catholics, gratitude must be a daily discipline. It s challenging to give thanks in difficult times; nearly impossible to give thanks for difficult times. But we must. God uses every circumstance for our good. When we move from complaint to gratitude, we open our hearts to receive His blessing. In one of my favorite books, The Hiding Place, Corrie ten Boom tells of a time when a grateful heart was the key to discovering God at work in the most horrific circumstances. Corrie and her sister Betsie were devout Christians who were imprisoned by the Nazis for hiding Jews. Conditions at the Ravensbrück concentration camp were horrid. When the sisters were moved to Barracks 28, they were met with reeking smells, screams, and fleas. What were they to do? It was Betsie who remembered St. Paul's words in 1 Thessalonians: "In all circumstances give thanks." Accordingly, they prayed a litany of thanks for their circumstances at Ravensbrück. Corrie prayed with her sister, but she was convinced God wouldn't mind if she wasn't thankful for the fleas. But by her sister's reprimand, Corrie sputtered out a half-hearted thanks for the fleas. The sisters started conducting Bible studies and prayer meetings in the barracks. Prisoner women of all languages gathered together to nourish their hearts with God's Word. The meetings grew to be so large, the sisters had to hold two meetings a day. Betsie and Corrie later discovered that it was the fleas that allowed them to minister to the women so freely. The fleas protected them by keeping the prison supervisors at arm's length of Barracks 28. This week, let's give thanks for the "fleas" in our lives. In time, God will reveal how He used them to protect and bless us. ~Kristin Molitor The Healing Power of God Teckla Scegura Donald Wenderski Virgil Czech Lee Bieniek Marcie Selinski Kieran Kloss Jim Czech Katie Yurczyk Judy Schehr Cheryl Barnes Donnie Maciej Reagan Zierdan LeRoy Johannes Nancy Bieniek Evelyn Trettel Jerry Kapsner Florence Voss Brenda Dobis Arlene Beniek Louise Bieniek Connie Young Eucaristic Adoration Every Monday All Saints-St. Mary s 8:00 a.m. 10:00 p.m. Every Saturday St. Stanislaus Kostka 6:00 a.m. 6:00 p.m. Daily Mass Eucharistic Adoration is also held for one hour following daily Mass on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. 4 Parish News & Events All Saints There is an immediate opening for a cleaning person for All Saints-St. Hedwig s. A job description and applications are available at the Central Office front desk. All Saints Building Committee update: Each week we will include some of our parishioner s responses regarding the future of our churches: On the Pro/Con sheet for St. Hedwig s. Why wasn t a Pro listed for St. Hedwig s being wheelchair accessible both to the main church and the basement. This is a huge Pro. We have an elderly population who need to access church via a wheelchair. We are ready for a new church. Thanks for all your work. My heart is full of joy in building a new church and making us one in Christ. We should lead our area into one community, so we can stand strong. St. Hedwig pray for us to have open hearts. If a new church is built at St. Mary s location would the steps at St. Hedwig s still have to be repaired and at what cost? People must leave go of buildings. Persons not leaving go of this issue, I would say these people are not Catholics. We need to move on and build a new Church to accommodate all the Parishioners. All Cluster Congratulations to our new Parish Council Members All Saints: Art Harlander, Deb Binsfeld, and Carol Greener Immaculate Conception: Mary Kay Eiynck and Mickey Jeffers Still in need of men. Ballot box is still at the back of church. St. Stanislaus: Father will draw this weekend. Liturgical Ministers We are in need of more liturgical ministers at all the churches especially Lectors and servers. Contact your Ministry schedulers if interested. Those interested in becoming a Eucharistic Minister, please call the Central Office. All women are invited to our Women s Advent Morning of Reflection Dec. 8th at St. Stanislaus Church in Bowlus. The morning will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude with Mass at noon. Please R.S.V.P. to Kristin at the Central Office by December 3rd. Catholic United Financial M I N I S T R E E Community service rooted in faith Look here for suggestions for our MinisTree Program. When completing a task fill out one of the MinisTree cards found in the back of church and turn it into the Central Office or collection basket. If more than one person is helping with the task, each should fill out a card. Turkey Bingo at St. Stanislaus A special thank you to all who donated to this event whether it was a monetary donation, a raffle prize donation or something for the free kids door prizes. Your generosity is so appreciated and we couldn t do it without your support. Thank you, The Social Justice Ministry Group. Thanksgiving Prayer Father in Heaven, Creator of all and source of all goodness and love, please look kindly upon us and receive our heartfelt gratitude in this time of giving thanks. Thank you for all the graces and blessings You have bestowed upon us, spiritual and temporal: our faith and religious heritage.
