Box 308, Holdingford, MN St. Stanislaus Kostka, Bowlus All Saints, Holdingford Immaculate Conception, St. Anna The Nativity of Saint John the Baptist June 24, 2018 St. Peter and St. Paul Feast Day is June 29th Peter is described as having little faith because of his fearfulness while walking on water and that he denied Jesus three times. However, when Jesus first met him, he named him Cephas Rock knowing Peter would become the foundation of the Church. He was martyred in the year 64. Paul was persecuting Christians in Jerusalem when while traveling on a road to Damascus a great light surrounded him and a voice said Saul, Saul, why do your persecute me? Paul fell off his horse and became blind. He was led to Damascus and after baptism his sight was restored and he took the name Paul. For the rest of his life, he preached the Gospel until his death in the year 67. 2 New Evangelization Corner Dear Friends, I think it s a wonderful providence that today s Solemnity of the Nativity of John the Baptist falls immediately after last Sunday s parable of the mustard seed. When John the Baptist enters the scene of the Gospels as a grown man, we witness his fiery preaching, his humility, and his fearlessness as he calls forth repentance and prepares the way for Christ. John is a man imbued with great graces for the greatest of callings: preparing people for Jesus incarnation and redemption from sin. When we think of John the Baptist, we often picture him at the height of his ministry, fulfilling the mission that God had appointed for him. As we recall the greatness of John, it s easy to forget his humble beginnings and the labor pains that birthed his vocation. Today s Gospel narrative of John s birth reminds us that like the little mustard seed, John, too, was once small. The strength of his character and his unique calling did not come all at once, but like the sprouting seed, it mysteriously unfolded gradually and over time until the day of his manifestation to Israel. The emotions surrounding John's vocation story are ones that many of us can relate to in our vocational calls. The announcement of John's unlikely conception comes after an extended period of suffering for his mother, Elizabeth who was barren. Even though John's father, Zechariah should be overjoyed to hear the news of his child, he immediately caves to fear and disbelief in God's plans. The experiences of longing and fulfillment, fear and faith, doubt and hope, are woven throughout John s story, and they are woven throughout our stories as well. When fear and discouragement tempt us to doubt God's unique plan for our lives, we should recall that the name John means "God is gracious." If we place our hope in the Lord, he will bring forth beautiful fruit from small and barren places. News & Events The office of Worship is excited to announce a new relationship with the One Call Institute-a summer program held at St. John s University and co-sponsored by the National Association of Pastoral Musicians. Join us for a special morning of prayer, learning, and fellowship on Saturday, June 30th! This is for all those engaged in pastoral ministry: pastors, singers, catechists instrumentalists, liturgists, etc. Ministers are invited to join the participants and team of the 2018 One Call Institute for prayer, liturgical formation, and breakout sessions designed to help build your knowledge and improve your ministry. $25 per Person org/colloquium/. 4 Parish News & Events St. Stanislaus Congratulations to the new Council members of St. Stanislaus: Martin Rudolph and Joanne Fussy We are in need of an additional parish council member to replace Pieta Prokott. Cemetery Clean-up All decorations in the St. Stanislaus Cemetery that interfere with grass cutting and trimming must be removed by Sunday, July 1st or they will be disposed of. Thank you. Community Garden in Bowlus Thank you to all who have tilled the garden but there are weeds to be pulled. No need to call just go to the garden and pull weeds anytime. We are looking for volunteers especially to have the garden looking nice before Bowlus Fun Day on July 1st.
