Established in 2010 through a merger of St. Margaret Mary and St. Gregory the Great Parishes, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish is a vibrant center of Catholic worship, education, Faith formation, service, evangelization, and community life. Through these apostolates, we seek to enable our members to establish and nurture a relationship with Jesus Christ and carry forth His mission in the World. 3 FROM THE PASTOR S DESK... My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I hope everyone survived the very difficult weekend that we had last week. A special thank you goes out to our service that had the parking lot and sidewalks in good shape for those who were able to make it to Mass. When the weather is so bad, it is understandable that many, especially those with health issues or age, would not be able to attend. Because the inclement weather caused a decrease in our Mass participation, you might notice that the collection was seriously affected. Unfortunately our bills do not stop due to the weather. If anything, they are even higher. If you were not able to come last week, or if you might be able to offer a little more the next couple of weeks, that would be greatly appreciated. You may have noticed that our collections have been down a little generally. Might you be able to consider increasing your weekly donation to your parish? Even $5 a week would be a tremendous help. Thank you for your kind consideration. We congratulate in a special way Mimi Shaughnessy who is being inducted into the CYO Hall of Fame this Sunday. Mimi exemplifies the very best in CYO. She teaches the children not only the skills of sport, but also how to make their Catholic Faith come alive. God bless you, Mimi. Thank you for all that you do! I would also like to remind you that our Corpus Christi Academy Open House is this Sunday from 11a.m. until 2 p.m. Why not come to our school and see the many wonderful things happening there. Father Ireland Blessed Candles for Home USE AVAILABLE NEXT WEEKEND... Saturday, February 2, is the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord (Candlemas Day). On this day, the Church blesses the candles which will be used throughout the coming year for our many and varied Liturgical celebrations. We will again offer candles for home use to our parishioners, and they will be available after all the Masses next weekend or during the week at the Parish Office for a donation of $5 for two candles. This increased offering cost is the result of our supplier being unable to obtain the same candles we have been getting. The ones now available are a larger size and therefore will burn longer and cost a bit more. Next Sunday is the Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time and the usual Feast Day of St. Blaise, patron of those who suffer any malady of the throat. We will bless throats at the weekend Masses (Saturday evening and Sunday.) Next weekend is the first weekend of the month of February. As is our practice, we will offer a Mass in the Extraordinary Form at 8 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, and another at 5 p.m. on Sunday, February 3. Following the Mass on Saturday, there will be recitation of the Rosary, the Devotions and Prayers in the Church. A light breakfast will be available in Mary s Room for everyone who will attend the Society of the Sacred Heart Conference talk. All are invited to come. Donations will be received in Mary s Room from 1 to 4 p.m. on the 9th. If you are able to package your donation in units ready for sale, that would be appreciated. Please label donations containing nuts or other special needs ingredients. 7 The Center for Pastoral Leadership in Wickliffe, Ohio, will host a Young Catholic Men s Conference on Saturday, February 2, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and beyond. Cost is $40/person and Dads and Mentors of these young men are strongly encouraged to join in the activities of the day. Among the presenters will be our own Bishop Nelson Perez and parishioner Martin Dybicz. The day will begin with a continental breakfast at 8 a.m. and conclude with a Texas BBQ Social at 6 p.m. followed by open gyms and a basketball tournament. Cost is only $40/PERSON FOR THE DAY. More information and registration is available online at ycmc.us. Friends of Sacred Heart will gather next on Saturday, February 9 12 Noon in the (PFC) Parish Family Center.
