Established in 2010 through a merger of St. Margaret Mary and St. Gregory the Great Parishes, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish is a vibrant center of Catholic worship, education, Faith formation, service, evangelization, and community life. If you are new to our area, or if you have stopped in just to celebrate Mass with us this week, we hope you felt welcome. Baptisms: First and third Sundays of each month at 1:00 p.m. Preregistration required. Parents must have completed a diocesan-required Pre-Baptism class. Pre-Baptism classes: Classes are offered the 4th Sunday of January, April, July and October at 1:00 p.m. in Mary s Room. Pre-registration is required. Call the Parish Office. Marriages: Engaged couples should make their arrangements with the priest at least 6 to 12 months in advance of their wedding. Funerals: Contact your funeral director of choice and after meeting with them, ask them to call the Parish Office to arrange date and time. Holy Communion for the Homebound: Please call the Parish Office whenever a family member is seriously ill or hospitalized. Arrangements can be made to bring Holy Communion to the homebound. Sponsor Requirements: All requests for sponsor certificates must be directed to a priest. Individuals must be registered and practicing members of this parish, at least 16 years of age, and have received the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. 3 from the Pastor s Desk... My Dear Brothers an Sisters in Christ, Today we celebrate the fest of the Holy Family. It is the day when the Church celebrates the lives of Mary, Joseph and the infant, Jesus, who were joined together as family in Nazareth. Let us pray for our families that they may be inspired by the lives of the Holy Family I pray that the New Year 2018 may be filled with many blessings for each and every one of you, your families and our beloved parish. Although the obligation to attend Mass on the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God (New Year s Day) has been lifted this year, I might suggest that attending Mass would be a wonderful way to begin this New Year. Please note that the Mass schedule is 9 a.m. and 12:10 p.m. There will not be a 6:45a.m. Mass on January 1 st. Please accept my invitation to come to a special Mass in the Extraordinary Form, on Saturday, January 6 th, at 8 a.m. As you may recall, January 6th is the traditional date for the Feast of the Epiphany (the coming of the Magi). We are planning a pot luck breakfast in Mary s Room to follow the Mass. Please plan to attend and bring a little something to share. May God s blessings be yours this New Year. Fr. CONTRIBUTIONS FOR CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS BEGINNING JANUARY, Envelopes for monthly contributions to our NEW and On-going Capital Improvement program will be included in this month s regular packet of offertory envelopes. Funds collected will be used for specific projects to keep our Parish buildings and property in good order and will be kept in a separate Credit Union account until needed. The first projects to begin next spring are: Church exterior: brick tuck pointing &repairs Parking lots & driveways: repairs & repainting In the past, these projects have been funded throuogh the offertory collection and other funding sources. However, with the many other operating costs of the Parish, it is sometimes difficult to find enough money to complete necessary capital improvements and repairs in a timely manner. This new fund is designed to raise much-needed money for specific projects. Periodically, we will let you know how the Fund and the Projects are doing. We ask that you be as generous as possible, without decreasing your regular weekly offertory. May God bless you for your prayerful consideration of this important Parish initiative. STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE Due to the early deadline for this bulletin (December 20) there are no collection figures available for Christmas weekend. We will report the collection for the 4th Sunday of Advent and Christmas in the January 6-7 bulletin. Our parish is in great need of your ongoing weekly support to achieve the budget totals required to operate both the parish and the Academy. Perhaps some of you would want to consider enrolling in the direct deposit program through the Credit Union or your own private bank in the coming year. Father Ireland. It s that time again when working folks minds turn to IRS, UNCLE SAM, what do I owe? What? I can t owe that much!!! and many more random phrases that remind us Income Tax Reporting time is just around the corner. Some of the fortunate ones who can still itemize deductions will be asking us for a statement of church contributions for (to be prepared, upon request, after January 20, 2018.) Please note: The IRS has very clear rules as to when a charity can recognize a year-end gift. ONLY checks written, dated and postmarked by December 31 will qualify as a 2017 contribution. ALL CHECKS collected through the offertory baskets MUST BE recorded as contributions on the date they are received, regardless of the date on the check. REMEMBER THE POOR & NEEDY DURING THIS WINTER with donations of warm outer wear and items of clothing for men, women and children of all ages and sizes. Donations may be taken directly to THE OZANAM CENTER (formerly located at the school building of St. Philomena Parish but now housed at the rectory (Eddy Rd. & Euclid Ave.). The Center is open every Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. the needy of the area.
