Established in 2010 through a merger of St. Margaret Mary and St. Gregory the Great Parishes, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish is a vibrant center of Catholic worship, education, Faith formation, service, evangelization, and community life. Preregistration is required. Call the Parish Office. Marriages: Engaged couples should make their arrangements with the priest at least 6 to 12 months in advance of their wedding. Funerals: Contact your funeral director of choice and after meeting with them, ask them to call the Parish Office to arrange date and time. Holy Communion for the Homebound: Please call the Parish Office whenever a family member is seriously ill or hospitalized. Arrangements can be made to bring Holy Communion to the homebound weekly or monthly. Sponsor Requirements: All requests for sponsor certificates must be directed to a priest. Individuals must be registered and practicing members of this parish, at least 16 years of age, and have received the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. Dear Friends, May the peace of Christmas greet you warmly on this most holy morning, and may the silent joy of the virgin birth of our Savior fill your hearts this day. In all of time, this day alone was privileged from eternity to be the day God became man. According to the venerable tradition of antiquity which holds Friday, March 25 to be the day of our Lord s conception in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the birth of our Redeemer who is the Light of the world would have to fall on Sunday, December 25. This adds something even more sacred to the holy feast of Christmas this year! Sunday, already sanctified by the creation of light by God in the beginning and then later by the glorious Resurrection of our Savior on Easter, is moreover the very day our Redeemer was born on Christmas! Let us kneel with our Blessed Mother and Saint Joseph before our God in the manger, and with the shepherds and angels alike, let us lovingly adore Him with the poetic words of Saint Ephraim, Doctor of the Church, praying: Grant, O Lord, that we may be permitted to celebrate truly the very mystery of Thy virgin birth this day. This day is like unto Thee; it is the friend of men. Throughout the ages, it returns each year; it ages with the aged, and it is born anew with the newly born. Each year this day comes to us and it passes by only to come again with all of its charm. It knows that our human nature could not go on without it, for it is like unto Thee; it comes to help our race in peril. The whole world, O Lord, hungers for the day of Thy birth. This happy day contains in itself all of the ages to come, because it is this day that the King of Ages came to earth. May this day, O Lord, be then again this year like unto Thee, making peace between heaven and earth, between God and man. If all days are filled with Thy many blessings, how do they overflow on the day of Thy birth! All days but borrow their beauty from this day, and the festivities that follow owe their pomp and splendor to the simplicity of its radiance; for without Thy divine humility, we would have no reason to celebrate. The day of Thy birth, O Lord, is a treasure! A treasure destined to pay our debt to Thee, O God, for having offended Thy divine Majesty by our sins. Blessed be the day that brought the Sun of Justice to our darkened paths; blessed be the day that brought us the grain of abundance in our time of famine; blessed be the day that brought us the liqueur of salvation which makes our hearts rejoice in Thee! Wishing you all the overabundance of blessings during this most holy season of Christmas, while assuring you wholeheartedly of my continued prayers for you, your families, your intentions and our parish throughout this new year of grace in the reign of our Divine King, I remain, Yours most devotedly in His most Sacred Heart, Abbé Matthew Weaver Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Merry Christmas! I just wanted to give a quick update on my status at Borromeo Seminary. Things are going quite well as I finish my first semester. There is a great balance in the formation here with the spiritual life, studies, house jobs, and enjoying time with all my new brothers. I feel so enriched from the community, and there is a palpable energy in the building. Although my schedule is kept quite busy, I enjoy the challenge. I hope all is well with you during this Blessed Season when we reflect on the Creator entering His creation, reaching down to save us from ourselves in an act of pure love. Know of my continued prayers for you all, and please keep me in yours! I look forward to being back at the parish over Christmas break and I hope to see many of you during my time back. On Wednesday evening, December 28, a Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m. in our church in honor of the Feast of the Holy Innocents. The Holy Innocents, although far fewer in number, remind us of the millions of lives now lost in abortion. Let us pray for both mother and child and a nation which respects their dignity.
