2 MAY 31, 2015 PAGE 2 FROM THE PASTOR S DESK My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Today we celebrate Trinity Sunday ~ an opportunity for us to reflect upon our Christian Faith that there is One God in Three Divine Persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. The Father is God and the First Person of the Blessed Trinity. To Him is attributed the work of Creation. The Son is God and the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity. To Him we owe our redemption from sin. His death on the Cross gave us life. The Holy Spirit is God and the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity. He manifests Himself in us particularly in our sanctification. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our Eighth Grade Class who will be graduating this Wednesday. They are a wonderful class. We wish them many blessings and success in their High School Years. Dear Graduates: Always stay close to God and His Church. God bless you. I am very proud of you. If you would like to become a Perpetual Adorer, please call Kay Sutula at and leave your name and phone number. for Priests This Apostolate meets every Thursday evening at 7 o clock in the Chapel to pray for vocations to the priesthood and for those who are already ordained and ministering among God s people. You are most welcome to join them any Thursday. Enthronement of the Sacred Heart If your family would like an image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus enthroned in your home, please call Father Ireland at the Parish Office ( ) to arrange for him to come to your home and lead this beautiful devotion. Let us place ourselves under the watchful eye of Our Blessed Mother Mary, who will teach us to Love with the Heart of Jesus. Community Recitation of the Rosary Parishioners, neighbors, and some employees of the University-Suburban Health Center gather in the Church at 11:45 a.m. on Wednesdays to pray the Rosary for peace. The first Tuesday evening of every month, there is a Family Rosary at 7 o clock in the Church. The devotion is led by members of the Knights of Columbus. Well, before we can answer that, we need to know what it takes to be a welcoming community. As a minimum, we offer these descriptive phrases: A WELCOMING COMMUNITY IS ONE THAT Meets people s needs Puts people at ease Makes people feel our genuine interest Makes people feel at home and comfortable Invites members to become friends Makes people feel needed Makes people want to come back Makes people feel loved Works diligently to keep the parishioners coming back Makes people feel important Several weeks ago we announced that Brother Daniel is to be ordained to the Priesthood by Bishop Richard Lennon on Saturday, August 15, the Feast of the Assumption. There will be a Special Ordination Mass at 10 o clock followed by a light reception in the Parish Family Center. The next day, Father Bowen will celebrate his first Mass here at Sacred Heart of Jesus, and again we will host a light reception after the Mass. Presently, no time has been established for this Mass. When we receive word, we will let you know. In the meantime, I would like to hear from anyone in the Parish who would be willing to volunteer to serve on a committee to prepare the menu and/or the environment for one or both of these receptions. Dear Parishioners, Academy News This will be my last column for this school year. Thank you, Sacred Heart of Jesus parishioners, for your loyal support this past school year. Your prayers worked wonders for our needs. Thank you for reading my weekly letter. I enjoyed sharing our accomplishments and weekly itineraries with you. It is so good to hear comments from you regarding my letters. God be with you all summer. The school year flew by so quickly. We experienced many highs and positivity with our students. The eagerness to learn lasted all year long. We have many exceptional students, from top to bottom. I m so happy to say that all of our 8 th Grade students were accepted into the Catholic High School of their choice. They will do well in their high school years. Congratulations to them as they graduate from Sacred Heart of Jesus on this Wednesday. Side note: Grade 8 will be on field trips on Monday and Tuesday. PARADE NEWS: Thank you to the many parents (more than a dozen) and the students who represented our Academy in the South Euclid Memorial Day parade. It was a nice showing with Sewing club, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts walking as part of the group. This last week of school consists of testing, housecleaning, field day, graduation, and Mass. Besides Graduation, Wednesday is also the last day for PreSchool and Kindergarten. Students in grades 1-7 will participate in field day activities on Thursday, courtesy of the Athletic Club. A picnic lunch will be served by the PTC. Friday begins with our last Academy Mass at 8:45. Then students will participate in a few group/class activities in the gym until 11:40, or so. There is no lunch service. Children may bring a brown bag snack/light lunch if necessary. Dismissal is at 12 Noon. There will be bus service at dismissal. There will be Extended Care available on Friday from 12 Noon to 5:30 p.m. Parents must sign up with Mrs. Amy Ianni prior to the 5 th. Students should pack a brown bag lunch with drink, extra snack if need be. Thank you to a very wonderful and dedicated faculty and staff.
