2 PARISH MISSION STATEMENT Through our Roman Catholic Faith, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish is committed to welcoming, engaging, and serving a diverse population in the Heights and Hillcrest areas. Established in 2010 through a merger of St. Margaret Mary and St. Gregory the Great Parishes, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish is a vibrant center of Catholic worship, education, Faith formation, service, evangelization, and community life. Through these apostolates, we seek to enable our members to establish and nurture a relationship with Jesus Christ and carry forth His mission in the World. Baptism 1st & 3rd Sundays each month at 1 p.m.; please pre-register Pre-Baptism class for first child ONLY as required by Diocese, offered here the 4th Sunday of January, April, July and October at 1 p.m. in Mary s Room. Pre-registration is required. Marriage Couples should contact a priest 6 to 12 months before their wedding date. Anointing of the Sick Celebrated at Masses annually during October for those able to attend. At home at the request of family at hospital or other medical facility within the jurisdiction of the parish and only in cases of emergency call the parish or hospital Catholic chaplain nearest to the location of person to be anointed. Funerals Contact funeral director of choice to meet; ask Director to call the Parish Office to arrange date and time. Call & visit parish office; meet with priest assigned to Mass. Holy Communion for the Homebound Call Parish Office to arrange for Holy Communion to be brought to homebound by Extraordinary Minister. Priests visit on First Friday. Sponsor Requirements Requests for sponsor certificates are directed to a priest. Individuals must be registered and practicing members of this parish; at least 16 years of age, and have received the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. if married, be in a marriage accepted by the Catholic Church. 3 FROM THE PASTOR S DESK... My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I would like to share this statement from Bishop Perez in response to several states moving forward with legislation that would permit a baby to be aborted at nine months. Again, we are being forced to endure another manifestation of what Pope Francis means when he says ours is a throwaway culture as legislation recently passed in New York and that being considered in other states would permit a baby to be aborted at nine months. I add my voice to that of Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann of Kansas City, Kansas, and chairman of the U.S. Bishops Committee on Pro-Life Activities who, in a recent statement, said this legislation is evil, pure and simple. It s not our place to play creator. Being Catholic entails a greater responsibility. We recognize God s creative work from the moment of conception. It is not our place to decide these things it never was and it never will be. God is the Creator and we are not. I encourage everyone to pray that the world grows in its respect for life, from conception to natural death, and to build awareness to reaffirm the Gospel teaching about the gift of life. As the Pastoral Plan for Pro-Life Activities from the U.S. Catholic Bishops reminds us, Only with prayer prayer that storms the heavens for justice and mercy, prayer that cleanses our hearts and souls will the culture of death that surrounds us today be replaced with a culture of life. Archbishop Naumann implores, Now is the time for all Catholics bishops, priests, and laity to fight for the unborn with renewed vigor. We must educate family, friends, legislators, fellow citizens about how it is never necessary to intentionally kill unborn children in order to save their mothers. Pope Francis reminds us we are to be witnesses of life. May the Holy Spirit be with each of us as we work with resolve to protect the most vulnerable among us, especially unborn children and their mothers. May God s blessings be yours this week. Father Ireland In less than one month, on March 6, the 2019 Lenten Season will begin. In preparation for the distribution of ashes on Ash Wednesday, we are asking for donations of used palms that will be burned and used to mark foreheads of the faithful as they enter into the penitential season that day. Please place your palm in the containers that will be available at the entrances of the church. Thank you.

They presented individual project to a panel of executive judges showing off how they developed their own scientific question or problem and then how they used the scientific process to answer the question or solve the problem. Each student's project included a research paper which detailed designing and performing an experiment, analyzing data, creating graphs, and sharing their new knowledge. Congratulations to these students chosen to represent Corpus Christi Academy at the 66th Annual Northeast Ohio Science and Engineering Fair held at Cleveland State University.
