Baptisms: First and third Sundays of each month at 1:00 p.m. Pre-registration required. Parents expecting their first child should arrange to attend the required Pre-Baptism class. These are offered at the parish on the 4th Sunday of January, April, July and October at 1:00 p.m. in Mary s Room. Pre-registration is required. Call the Parish Office. Marriages: Engaged couples should make their arrangements with the priest at least 6 to 12 months in advance of their wedding. Funerals: Call the Parish Office to arrange date and time. Holy Communion for the Homebound: Please call the Parish Office whenever a family member is seriously ill or hospitalized. Arrangements can be made to bring Holy Communion to the homebound weekly or monthly. Sponsor Requirements: All requests for sponsor certificates must be directed to a priest. Individuals must be registered and practicing members of this parish, at least 16 years of age, and have received the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. 3 AUGUST 14, 2016 PAGE 3 From the Pastor s Desk... PRAYER APOSTOLATES... My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Monday is the Feast of the Assumption of our Lady. I do hope that you will use this weekend to support our Cluster Parish of Holy Rosary by attending the Feast. Although there are many wonderful places to eat in Little Italy, please remember that the parish food which is served on their grounds goes to support the parish. We will be having an additional Mass at 7:00 p.m. on the Assumption. Although it is not a day of obligation this year (because it falls on a Monday), it would be good to attend Holy Mass and to pray for peace throughout our world. We are very happy that Archbishop Broglio is home for his vacation. He will be with us throughout the month. Please be sure to give him a warm welcome home when you see him. Things are progressing very well in our Corpus Christi Academy. Parents are reminded of the Special Mass at St. Clare at 12 Noon on Sunday, August 21 st. This will be followed by a pot-luck in the school field. Come and meet some of the parents from St. Clare. Thank you for your kind donations to help Abbé Weaver s seminary education. If you did not have a chance to contribute last week, please bring your gift to the rectory. If using a check, please make it out to Sacred Heart of Jesus and in the memo line mention it is for Abbé. A Ministry of Compassion & Reconciliation Catholics Returning Home is a program coming to Sacred Heart of Jesus on September 8th, that is designed to invite non-practicing Catholics to return home to the Church and resume active practice of their faith. Six (6) weekly sessions provide up-dated information on the basics of Catholicism in a non-threatening, support-group format. Were you raised Catholic but don t practice regularly? Are you a Catholic who feels separated from the Church? Do you want to know more about today s Catholic? Do you want to feel at home in the Church again? No matter how long you have been away and no matter the reason, we invite you to renew your relationship with the Catholic Church. Please join us for informal listening sessions and an update of the Catholic faith. All sessions are held at... Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish 1545 South Green Road ~ South Euclid, Ohio in Mary s Room (off the vestibule in the back of Church). Follow the signs and look for Greeters to assist you. For at least a decade, the Catholic Men s Fellowship of St. Gregory the Great, now Sacred Heart of Jesus, has met on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month to feast on the Word of God (and a delicious breakfast prepared by the hands of our fellow members), to give praise in song and in prayer and to share life with all its blessings and challenges with Christian and Catholic men from our neighborhood. On Saturday, August 27, Deacon Richard Woods will be our featured guest speaker. Deacon Richard will offer his reflections on the importance of music in our Eucharistic Liturgy. We look forward to welcoming him. At 7:30 to 8 a.m., join us in Mary s Room for coffee, a light breakfast and fellowship. From 8 to 9 a.m. Deacon Richard will instruct, inspire and lead us to increase our faith using music to fill our hearts with God s message. Please Join Us and Bring a Friend. Today s bulletin contains a reprint of a letter from Bishop Lennon regarding our parish participation in the 2016 Annual Appeal. We also received notice that as of July 29. Thirty-three gifts totaling $1, were received from our parish in the second phase of the Appeal. If you are new to South Euclid, or if you have stopped in just to celebrate Mass with us this week we hope you felt welcome. Please come back again or better yet stop by the Parish Office and inquire about becoming a member of our parish. One of our priests will be most happy to talk with you.... ADVANCE NOTICE... Our SVDP Council recently donated $850 to the Diocesean Council for its Back-to-School Campaign for poor children of the inner city AND extended a challenge to the Parish community to match our donation. We have been blessed with such beautiful by Mr. Ken Mitskavich, Principal weather over these past couple of weeks and the contractors as well as maintenance staff have taken full advantage of God s goodness to complete different facilities projects on the campus. We are excited to show off our building very soon! Corpus Christi Academy will be celebrating the noon mass together next week on August 21, 2016, at the Church of St. Clare followed by a picnic. This will be an exciting day for families to meet each other and share their excitement for the first day of school on the 24 th! I am very proud of the students, parents, teachers, staff, and community members who have united together to support and foster a Catholic School that will inspire, excel, and serve! Tuition remains $100 per family, regardless of the number of children in the family. Families with children who will enroll in grades 2 or 8 (the sacramental years) will pay an extra $40 per sacrament. Planning to enroll in our program? Please do so as soon as possible so that we may ensure the proper number of teachers and aides. An Open House is planned for Sunday, September 11, at 10 a.m. in the gym of the Parish Family Center. This event will provide you and your student(s) an opportunity to visit the classroom, meet the teacher and hear an overview of the coming year. Mark your calendars you don t want to miss out on this important orientation. Regular classes begin on Sunday, September 18. Classes are from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. We ask all parents to consider bringing their children to Church for the 11:30 a.m. Mass before heading home.
