Faer Mayo - Pastor PASTORAL COUNCIL MINUTES JUNE 16, 2012, MINUTES Members Present: Faer James Mayo, Meghan Jackson, Helen Heller, Vincent Hayes, Joe Schreck, Rosemary Rettig, Brigid O Callaghan, Fr, Lucas Laborde, Connor Savage. Members Absent: Deacon Chuck Amsberry, Christine Ro, Giselle Rincon and e Newman Club representative, Preliminary: The meeting was called to order by Pastoral Council President, Brigid O Callaghan. The Pastoral Council also celebrated Fr. Lucas s final meeting as he departs to attend e Caolic University of America in Washington, DC. Fr. Lucas will be missed! The Council Minutes of e May meeting were approved. Election of Officers for 2012/2013: For e Scribe position, Rosemary and Joe have agreed to act in e same rotational manner. For President, e Council nominated Brigid O Callaghan to serve anoer year. These nominations were approved by e council. Pastor s Comments: Fr. Mayo reported e need for groups to leave e kitchen area clean and all items put away and replaced as needed. Kaerine Ferruzzi, e new Kitchen & Hall Manager will report to Fr. Mayo on progress wi groups following rules/procedures for use of e kitchen. The Finance Council completed a revised budget for operations, and
5 e Pastoral Council approved unanimously. Fr. Mayo noted e need for two new Pastoral Council members due to expiring terms for Christine Ro and Ellen Fargas. rd Pastoral Associate s Report: The Parish summer pilgrimage to e Trappist Abbey is set for Saturday, June 23. So far ere are approximately twelve individuals interested in is one day pilgrimage. The monly wine and cheese socials will begin after e Saturday vigil Mass for June 16, July 21, August 18, and September 29. Lastly, ere will be an ecumenical prayer service for religious freedom. The US Bishops are asking all Caolics to pray and fast in defense of our religious freedom. This prayer service is titled, Fortnight for Religious Freedom, and runs for two weeks, from June 21 until July 4. We will outreach to nearby Christian Churches and plan to offer a shared prayer service at St. Michael on Wednesday, June 27, at 7 pm. Campus Minister s Report Fr. Lucas reported at e post-fragua meetings finished on May 29. There are plans for two Fraguas per year beginning in e Fall term. The Freshman Bible Study and Women s Prayer Group is led by Sr. Teresa and some peer leaders, Caerine Stone and Melinda Guillen. The bible study has grown to 10 students and is in its final session. The new Campus Minister, Fr. Maximo Stock, will be ordained a priest in Argentina on July 14. In addition, Fr. Ignacio Llorente, e new pastor at St. Patrick s, will also be an active participant in Newman Center activities is Fall and assist Fr. Maximo. Social Services Report Rosemary Rettig said at in May Social Services provided 2,395 persons soup & sandwich. In addition, provided 278 households representing 378 persons food boxes. The greatest need for food boxes includes peanut butter and canned, ready-to-serve meals such as healy soups, chili, etc. The new white van now displays e parish crest and name. Check it out next time you are in e parking lot! This van is capable of hauling up to 1,900 pounds of food. Social Services now is in need of volunteers as some long-time volunteers have announced eir retirement. They will be sorely missed! Please reach out to Rosemary if you are able to help fill e need of ese departing volunteers. KKIOR/Indonesian Community Report Helen Heller reports at e KKIOR Community was pleased to join e Indonesian Community of Oregon in e 100 Grand Floral Parade on June 9, This was a successful event! Music Coordinator s Report Meghan is now planning e music for all Masses for e rest of e summer. Substitutes for all organists who are scheduled to be out during e summer have been successfully filled. There was discussion about improving e music at e Noon Mass. Development Director s Report Connor Savage said at e campaign brochure graphic design work has been assigned to a new vendor partner. DiLoreto & Associates is now responsible to design e brochure. This change was necessary due to e distant location of e Seattle printing firm. DiLoreto & Associates is local and decisions and changes can be executed much more efficiently. The major gift phase will begin once is brochure is completed and en Fr. Mayo will schedule meetings wi some key donors. The parish capital campaign is scheduled for mid-august. In preparation for is phase, Connor Savage will reach out to approximately 15 parishioners to solicit response to a survey. This survey is to help direct activities for e fund raising committee and building committee. Building Project Remember Our Roots, Restoring Our Heart Capital Campaign. The Project Team has elected to not tear down e existing church structure and rebuild. It felt it needed to look at at possibility due to costs to see if ere were substantial savings. It was found at any savings would be minimal and e negatives large, so e Team is moving forward wi eir original plans of remodeling e existing structure s interior and seismically-strengening e brick structure and oer improvements. New Bookkeeper: Fr. Mayo has hired Jackie Wheatley & her son, Dan, to be e Parish Bookkeeper. This contractor assignment will include approximately 15 hours per mon. Jerri will continue as Parish Secretary and be able to better do what she presently does and to take on some additional duties.
