Best Advent Ever Advent is a time to prepare our hearts for Christmas, but we often get distracted and busy. Don t let this Advent pass you by. Slow down and focus on what matters most with BEST ADVENT EVER. Each day you will receive an with short inspirational videos from Allen Hunt and Dominick Alban, practical tips for your everyday life and real-life stories to encourage you in your faith journey. It s easy all you have to do is sign up at BestAdventEver.com. We encourage you to clip and save the prayers for future worship. Christmas Eve Prayer Loving God, Help us remember the birth of Jesus, that we may share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds, and worship of the wise men. Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world. Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting. Deliver us from evil by the blessing which Christ brings, and teach us to be merry with clear hearts. May the Christmas morning make us happy to be thy children, and Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus sake. Amen. Christmas Day Prayer - Jesus, the Light of the World Jesus, the Light of the World, as we celebrate Your birth may we begin to see the world in the light of the understanding You give us. As You chose the lowly, the outcasts, and the poor to receive the greatest news the world had ever known, so may we worship You in meekness of heart. May we also remember our brothers and sisters less fortunate than ourselves in this season of giving. Amen Page 4

3 Are you familiar with the Holy Name Prayer Line? It is a group of 30+ parishioners (called the Prayer Line Partners) who pray for anyone who is in need of prayers for any reason. It could be an illness, loss of a loved one, etc., or a special intention. We invite you to share your prayer needs by calling Ann at the rectory ( ). You don t even have to give us your name just who (first name only, or you can say a woman, a man, a parishioner) the group would pray for and a very brief reason (i.e., surgery, illness, special intention, etc.) for the request. We compile a daily list (Monday through Friday) and it to the partners who have s, and it is called in to those who do this by phone (first person calls the second, and so on). New partners always welcome. Please contact Ann at the rectory, , with your interest. STEWARDSHIP Collections for December 8 & 9, 2018 total $9,043.01! Collection for the Immaculate Conception Holy Day Totals $ We truly appreciate your generosity and support. Sr. Melinda continues seeking DONATIONS of individually wrapped butterscotch or peppermint candies, Tootsie rolls, lollipops, granola, and packs of peanut butter crackers for the candy bags that our parish is providing to Holy Cross to enhance their Sandwich Ministry for the homeless. Any of these items that you can provide is warmly appreciated! Many, many thanks go out to all of the kind parishioners who took part in our annual Giving Tree Program. It means so much to the parishioners who are homebound and can no longer come to Mass. This is a wonderful ministry of caring, especially at the Christmas season, when the gift of friendship and taking time for others shows the true meaning of the season. Thank you all so very much!! Seminarian Fund and Christmas Fund Please consider picking up an envelope entitled "Seminarian Fund" from our Christmas Giving Tree. The envelope will contain directions on how you can send a seminarian a gift for Christmas. You can also send a donation in the name of your seminarian to: Vocations Office, diocese of Springfield, 65 Elliot St., P.O. Box 1730, Springfield, MA In addition to our prayers, any way we can support our seminarians is a great help. Thank you for your consideration Page 5

4 The OPEN PANTRY is in need of the following food items: Oatmeal or hot cereal, Peanut Butter, Canned meats and Spaghetti Sauce But please, we ask that you do not bring any: Perishables of any kind (bread, potatoes, fresh vegetables, etc.) Pick-ups are not done every week, so any items like this will go bad. Partially used/opened items Also, please check expiration dates. We cannot give them items that have expired. SERVICE We will be decorating the Church for Christmas on Sunday, December 23 rd, after the 12:30p.m. Spanish Mass. If you are available, your help will be very much appreciated! LOAVES AND FISHES On the first Monday of every month, members of our parish gather at South Congregational Church on Maple Street to serve a meal to the hungry of our city. We are sure you will find it to be a positive and rewarding experience, and it is so organized, it won t take a lot of your time. American Chop Suey is the meal we serve. If you can help with the cooking or serving, please call Ann at the rectory, , or if you decide to come and don t have time to call ahead, that s fine, too. Meals can either be dropped off between 4:15 and 4:30p.m., or stay and serve and be out in about an hour. You ll find plenty of safe, off-street parking right in the church parking lot. Since we have lost some of our volunteers, if you can help out, it would be greatly appreciated!! Concerning Hospital Visits If someone in your family is in the hospital and you want to have Fr. David, Fr. Joyce or Sister Melinda visit, please call the rectory at and leave a message for either father or Sr. Melinda, (ext. 130). Unfortunately, a parishioner s name is not always on the daily list of Holy Name patients; so we ask that you give us a call with the information (name, which building, room #, etc.). This way you or your loved one will be assured of a visit. EDUCATION IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FOR EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS.. As mandated by the Diocese of Springfield if you visit the elderly or homebound to give Communion, you must see Sr. Melinda about a C.O.R.I-related VIRTUS TRAINING. Please contact her by the first of the year to maintain your E.M. to the Homebound status. Thank you Page 6
